The Paganine road overpass which remained closed in recent months will reopen on Monday 22 April at 12pm to allow the construction site of the first Complanarina junction to begin, where work is in the final stage.

The intervention is carried out by Autostrade per l’Italia and involves the construction of a double roundabout system along the new branch of the ring road and of a road axis outside the town of Paganine, as well as a road-side car park with draining paving and with provision for charging electric vehicles.

The Complanarina, designed to ease traffic on the Vignolese and Gherbella streets, guaranteeing greater road safety in the area, represents an alternative route to the Autosole for a more balanced distribution of vehicular flows. The work will allow the traffic in the urban center to be alleviated, especially that of heavy vehicles. The project includes, among other things, the installation of approximately 3.7 kilometers of sound-absorbing barriers, the construction of four new roundabouts and eight new infrastructures, including the bridge over the Tiepido stream, approximately 37 meters long.

Construction activities began in summer 2022 with wartime reclamation and preventive archaeology, environmental monitoring and interventions to resolve interference with networks in the area between Modena, Castelnuovo and Spilamberto. After the approval in January 2023, by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, of the executive project for the connection of approximately six kilometers between the Bellaria road, where the coplanar road currently ends, and the Modena south motorway toll booth in San Donnino, in June last year Autostrade per l’Italia delivered the works for the construction of the works on a first part of the areas: we started, in fact, with the Paganine junction, which is being concluded in these days.

Here the interventions planned at the request of the municipal administration have allowed the creation of a double roundabout system and a road axis outside the town capable of diverting the north-south crossing traffic onto the Paganine road with a significant benefit in terms of circulation and safety. A road-side car park was also created with draining paving and provision for charging electric vehicles.

Work continues on the San Lorenzo junction with the opening of the underpass scheduled for May. According to forecasts, during the summer the roundabout along Via Vignolese at the Modena south toll booth will be opened in a temporary construction site configuration. At the same time, the junctions for via Medicine and strada Bellaria will also be opened. The last phase of work on State Road 12 is scheduled for summer 2025, before the final phase of the project which is expected at the end of 2025.
