Lamezia Terme – The environmental project inspired by the national “I don’t take risks” campaign aimed at spreading the culture of safety among primary school children ended with the Civil Protection’s applause for the Manzoni-Augruso institute.

The awareness project was born in 2017, in collaboration with the Civil Protection directorates of the regions, the autonomous provinces and the regional school offices, with the aim of including the world of school in the “I don’t risk” target, where the prevention culture can find fertile ground on which to take root, becoming the heritage of the individual and the community. “Thanks to the synergy between pedagogists, psychologists, scientists, educators and civil protection experts – says the principal of the Manzoni-Augruso institute, Antonella Mongiardo – an experiential path dedicated to the little ones was created. The primary school children, supported by their teachers, were actively involved in the process of learning about natural risks and the actions that contribute to reducing these risks”. 34 Calabrian schools participated, including 6 from the Province of Catanzaro and the Manzoni Augruso institute for Lamezia Terme. At Manzoni-Augruso the project was carried out by the environment representatives Antonella Ariosto and Annarita Molinaro, with the active and creative involvement of the students of the 3rd A class of the “T.Augruso” plexus. Online meetings were held with the organizers Romano Camassi, Vera Pessina, Pierdomenico del Gaudio, Manuela Lopez, and Annachiara Giambattista to define the general lines, the specific aspect of the theme chosen for the class and the authentic task to be carried out. The project involved the implementation of laboratory activities on seismic risk. The classroom activities were conveyed through an educational kit made available by the Civil Protection, together with theoretical ideas and multi-risk workshops. The final product was the creation of a lapbook by each student, explaining the knowledge learned during the interdisciplinary path which encompassed civic education, science, geography, mathematics, English language, art and image, music. A notebook was also created containing all the topics covered, which were then summarized in the lapbook.

“Photos of the works carried out and a short video illustrating the different parts of the lapbopok were sent to those responsible for the project – reports the teacher Antonella Ariosto – with background music sung by the children “Terra” (eugenio in via di Gioia) which is a hymn to respect for the environment. These works will be published by the Civil Protection on the official website of “I don’t risk school”. Thanks and congratulations were received for the work carried out with care by pupils and teachers”.
