Como trains, nothing but improvements: a disaster

Trains, still inconvenienced, yesterday morning due to a fault in an exchange, around twenty journeys between Chiasso and Saronno ran half an hour late or were cancelled.

Already the previous evening, commuters had reported serious disruptions to return from Milan, with at least four cancellations and ten trains with severe delays, two trips in particular arriving 84 and 93 minutes after the scheduled time. With some trains that did not arrive at the terminus, but stopped before, or left from stops later than the departure station. The reason, also in this case, is yet another infrastructure failure near Seregno.

«The inconveniences are really serious – he explains Hector Maroni, representative of Como commuters – I don’t think the problems have been resolved or resolved, as the regional councilor had announced at the beginning of the year. Going in the morning and coming back in the evening too often is difficult.”

Yesterday morning in particular the fault occurred in Desio, so many routes limited the service by leaving after the terminus or not arriving at the end of the route, accumulating up to 30 minutes of delay. Also in the afternoon several trains were half an hour late, with the 6.16pm train from Como lake also cancelled. When a line is blocked, all the travelers change and flock to the other routes, with the carriages full. «Especially on the way back the trains are often overcrowded – says a commuter, Antonella Falbo – It’s also difficult to get up to travel standing up.” «The service shows no signs of improving – he comments Andrew Mazzucotellione of the five representatives elected by the committees and recognized by the Region – the new convoys always seem to be lacking in numbers”.

Yesterday at 3.30pm, among other things, a train remained stopped on the tracks of Viale Lecco for about fifteen minutes, the lowered barriers blocked traffic. Thus, long queues of cars immediately formed, another long-standing inconvenience in the center linked to the safety systems for the closure of level crossings.

To these unfortunately frequent problems there is another, more curious one, raised by the regional councilor of the Democratic Party Peter Compass yourself. According to its internal sources, Trenord has a problem with the management of toilets on board the trains. Once the legislation that allowed unloading directly onto the rails to be unloaded while traveling was passed, the company would have to equip itself to place containers in particular on new trains and in stations. And so to clean the ducts, again according to what Bussolati states, on average 150 trains per month on all Lombardy lines, including ours, remain stationary. Despite these inconveniences, from this month it is less likely that commuters will be reimbursed, the delay bonus has in fact been canceled and in its place an compensation has been increased, which however is rarely triggered because it is calculated on more restrictive parameters. The regional transport councilor Frank Shiny However, he claimed that Lombardy was the only one to increase the compensation from 10% to 30% compared to the cost of the season ticket, other Regions, according to him, have only eliminated the bonus as requested by the Transport Regulatory Authority. Nonetheless, the commuter committees, as well as the opposition councillors, continue to ask for new compensation measures together with greater punctuality of the service.
