PISTOIA – The PD motion which brought an idea for the development of the city based on “open air” tourism (camper/caravan) was rejected in the last city council – albeit with a disunited majority.
“Let’s imagine, in years in which this segment of tourism is having an extraordinary boom – PD city councilor Stefania Nesi had proposed – to provide Pistoia with three modern and eco-sustainable rest areas equipped for the parking of campers and caravans. The first is already there, it is the one in via Marini: we are putting it back because it is an indecency, with poor services that give a terrible image of the city. We can do another one on the plain, perhaps in the area of via Sestini, where in fact there are already two rest areas, even if they are completely devoid of services. We do the third on the hill.
In this way, with a minimal investment, we create itineraries in stages for campers who, between Florence and the sea, would perhaps willingly stop in Pistoia, alternating stops in the city with the coolness of our hills.
We create rest areas in public areas that are actually not used or used in an improper and unproductive way. Let’s put up a barrier for access, equip them with the necessary services and place them near commercial businesses or tourist accommodation facilities, in order to activate an industry that creates job opportunities and enhances the resources of the area.
Let’s carry out a strong communication campaign (also abroad) – concluded councilor Nesi – aimed at this tourism target which, coincidentally, prefers Tuscany for its itineraries, promoting the rest areas, nearby structures and heritage as a whole of the city”.
The proposal was not accepted.
The only point implemented, in fact, is the renovation of the parking area in Via Marini – but it was difficult to say no to this. For the rest, this majority just can’t have a strategic vision, the approach is of the “we’ll just need what we have” type. Too bad, because it’s not a thought that takes you far. And in the meantime, other municipalities are effectively seizing these small or large opportunities.
