Lukasz Podnieski’s Croatian Razjaren in command after the first day of the Melges 24 Sailing Series in Trieste

The regatta field of the Yacht Club Adriaco, organizer of the inaugural stage of the European circuit dedicated to the Melges 24 fleet, today offered four spectacular races held with winds averaging 12 knots from the west.

The best of this first day is Lukasz Podnieski’s Croatian Razjaren who, after sixth place in the first test, achieved a hat-trick of first places which puts him at the top of the general classification.
Behind him is the British Zhik Race Team of Miles Quinton (1,2,4,6: pt. 13) which follows the provisional leader by four points.
Third place and first of the Italians went to the reigning European and Italian champion Strambapapà owned by Michele Paoletti who for the occasion handed over the boat to a group of very young local dinghy sailors with Leonardo Centuori at the helm (7,3,3,2: pt. 15)
The provisional top five is completed by Sergio Caramel’s Arkanoè (9,5,2,4: pt. 20) and the Hungarian Chinook by Akos Csolto (8,4,6,7: pt. 25).

Ante Cesic, helmsman of Razjeren – “Today was an intense day on the water, with four tests that pushed us to give our best. We had a slow start in the first race but subsequently we quickly adapted to the race course, we were able to implement our strategy and we were able to express our true potential. The regatta is still long, we are at a good point but from tomorrow we will have to monitor the competition and try to finish the job with precision”.

Tomorrow the second day of the regatta will resume at 12.00
