Catania. Death of an elevator operator turned “rescuer”…

The death of the elevator operator Antonio Pistone, 31 years old (in the photo) – which occurred yesterday afternoon in Aci Sant’Antonio (Ct) – who intervened to free a person trapped in the elevator of a building horribly highlights the unstoppable trail of deaths of work, largely due to lack of security.

Why did Antonio, fatally crushed between the cabin and an elevator door, carry out an intervention defined as “rescue to the person”, an intervention carried out by the Fire Brigade?

Antonio wasn’t carrying out a maintenance operation, he was carrying out a rescue that wasn’t his responsibility and, even, alone!

Antonio’s death is part of the daily massacre of workers, while “state” politics and unions sink into hypocrisy and tears and occasional mourning.

Yesterday, April 18, we recorded, in these first 109 days of 2024, a total of 323 work victims, an average of 3 deaths per day. And there are those who still dare to talk about “accidents at work”.
