The culmination was reached with an official note issued by the Giallorossi, after the League rejected the proposal not to play the remaining 18 minutes and 30 seconds of the match. Despite the request, the League board voted against the previously reached agreement to play the match the following month. In the letter sent to the League, Roma explicitly requested this advance, underlining that to guarantee the team the best conditions to compete better in Europe, it would have been appropriate to grant the same days of rest assigned to Bayer Leverkusen.
However, the decision to play on 25 April in Udine, even just for a few minutes plus injury time, was not considered appropriate by the Giallorossi club.
