CORIGLIANO-ROSSANO – «Despite the advertisements on social media and the renderings brought out at the end of the mandate by this municipal administration, the fact before everyone’s eyes is that the Historic Centers of Corigliano-Rossano are in a pitiful state and a change of direction is urgently needed with respect to the current administrative action which in five years has only been able to take some small cosmetic measures”. This is what we read in a note issued last night by the civic committees of the historic centers of Corigliano-Rossano in support of Pasqualina Straface who put mayor Stasi on the grill and attack him on the maintenance activity and “no vision” for the two noble areas of the city.
And it is precisely maintenance activities that end up the target of the supporters of the Centre-Right mayoral candidate: «A city guide – they write – that while schools close, commercial activities take down their shutters, houses become depopulated and entire neighborhoods are left abandoned. abandonment thinks about installing some balustrades and painting some walls from the idea of the Titanic orchestra that continues to play smugly while the ship sinks. Of the five years of Stasi administration – they add – apart from the disfigurement of Via Roma, the historic centers will remember very little. The concerts and parties, however pleasant, have never solved the problem of emptying and deterioration, and, indeed, we can say that now both Corigliano town and Rossano center are becoming dormitories for seasonal workers while the residents leave. If this is the idea of a normal city, let’s hope it lasts for another couple of months.”
And then the “recipe” for the future relaunch of the two towns. «The historic centers – continues the note from the pro Pasqualina Straface committees – need serious redevelopment, not of the homes of the private individuals who make the lists but overall. The management of shared goods must not be about assigning spaces to associations of friends who throw parties there by selling beer inside, but about creating management that can really bear fruit and reevaluate the abandoned spaces of which both cities are unfortunately full. Using culture means privileging municipal libraries and not activities in which someone has more or less obvious interests. Tourism does not mean waiting for those four buses that every now and then you see bringing visitors, but having constant flows and services capable of welcoming and hosting in a dignified manner those who choose to spend a few days in our city which at the moment is anything but equipped ».
«Redeveloping historic centers means creating the conditions so that people can return to live there with pleasure knowing that there are services, activities, parking and at the same time being able to attract tourist flows all year round and not just in the two summer months by offering worthy services. We hope that the next administration, hoping to be an alternative to the current one, will be able to invest more and better in concrete things and not in abstract projects and balustrades because otherwise – concludes the note – the decline of the two historic centers of Corigliano-Rossano could become unstoppable.”
