the fans want Conte, the club leafs through the daisy

The coach will not be confirmed for next season despite his contract expiring in 2025. The list of successors is very long, but the choice has not yet been made

If it depended on the fans, who have already clearly expressed their desire to change the technical leadership, the new coach of Milan it would be one and only one: Antonio Conte. Doubts on the issue, just take a look on social media, are close to zero. The Rossoneri people want the former coach, for different reasons but which have a precise common denominator: Conte is unanimously considered a winner and, above all, the man capable of restoring dynamism, character and balance to a team that, today, seems a bit in disarray, certainly emptied and with no apparent room for growth. Let’s add: if it were up to Conte, the will of the Milan fans would be easily supported. It has its demands, of course, more technical than economic, but also the not-so-hidden desire to start again from a club with an important history and a solid base on which to work.

The problem is that what the fans like doesn’t necessarily please the club too. Antonio Conte is considered cumbersome and the fear is always that one expects too much on the market. In short, perhaps not expensive on a contractual level – he would seem willing to lower his demands, which are still high – but certainly challenging when it comes to building the team of the future. He, like many other coaches or more than other coaches, wants to have his say and, above all, to be satisfied as much as possible.

The fact is that the former Tottenham’s shares have never been too high. It remains a possibility in the shadows, but thinking that today it is the least likely is perhaps not a mistake. Although, it must be said, the margherita browsed by the club is wide and rather varied, not to mention exotic in some cases. There are many names that have come out in the last 24 hours alone: Thiago Motta aside, destined for Juventus, there was talk of Lopetegui, Fonseca, Galtier, Gallardo, Sergio Conceiçao and even Van Bommel, old, beloved, red and black heart. The only exception to the marked xenophilia – it is the party that seems to prevail in Milan – is that Roberto De Zerbi which is doing so much good in England.

Given that the idea of ”change only to improve” transpires from the club, we would have to ask which of these technicians could bring a decisive upgrade to Milan in the future. But this is another matter. Today this uncertainty is more valid, which combines with the babbling on the pitch and which really doesn’t do much good, especially considering that on Monday there would be a derby to save, if not actually win, to avoid having failure thrown in your face, in the form of the second star’s scudetto, from Inter right in front of their fans. Because if the Milan club wants to try to maintain the right amount of autonomy in decisions, it would be good to avoid an even greater entropy of anger by losing yet another match with the Nerazzurri. After all, it is the last event still linked to the present of this championship. Afterwards, somehow, we will have to really look further.
