Countdown to the interruption of the Orte-Falconara railway line, where structural and technological works on the infrastructure are planned from 4 May to 7 June, with the necessary remodulation of a part of the Umbrian railway service by Trenitalia and inevitable inconveniences for the passengers. In the last few hours, the remodulation of the offer for the 35 days concerned was defined, with the provision of replacement services, providing for both early and postponed departures. A discussion table was also launched between the Umbria Region, Trenitalia and RFI, in the presence of the Coordination of Umbrian commuter committees.

Changes

In detail, from Terni to Rome Termini, although the infrastructure capacity between Orte and Terni is reduced due to the works, travel solutions by train will normally be guaranteed, with the exception of Intercity connections, which will be guaranteed with dedicated buses from Terni to Orte where they will find correspondence with Intercity trains. From Foligno to Terni, connections will be guaranteed with bus services with rescheduled timetables to absorb the increased travel times on the road. To accommodate commuters who have time constraints, the departure of some rail and bus services has been anticipated, so as to allow them to arrive at their destination at a time close to the usual one. To prevent overcrowding on buses, seating quotas have also been set up. To contain bus travel times, thanks to Trenitalia’s technical discussion with RFI and Anas, the activation of some new road construction sites scheduled for May was also postponed, thus containing the foreseeable inconveniences. Finally, Intercity connections will be guaranteed from Perugia and Ancona via Terontola, travelers will be able to opt for the solution without transfers, or the bus+train solution with a change in Orte.

Commuters’ proposals

«At the moment – explains the Region in a note – over 95% of the remodulated timetables have been published on the Trenitalia sales systems and therefore easily accessible. Over the next decade all travel solutions will be visible and purchasable in the usual ways. Dedicated information campaigns will be launched in the coming weeks to ensure maximum information to the public.” As part of the discussion table in which commuters also participated, held on Wednesday, some issues were also addressed, such as the modification of some timetables from Terni to Rome and the possibility of flexibility in the use of services via Terontola, both regional both Intercity, also for season ticket holders with solutions via Terni. «Trenitalia gave positive feedback, proposing the hourly solution for Rome with a new regional train departing from Terni at 8.24 and arriving in Rome Tiburtina at 10.05. As regards the flexibility of use of season tickets, he expressed his willingness to help season ticket holders.”

The Region’s requests

The Region asked RFI for “maximum attention to respecting the completion date of the works and the circulation of railway services”. The discussion table will be active for the entire duration of the interruption to allow monitoring of the progress of the solutions adopted. «It is clear – continues the Region – the exceptional nature of the situation and the impossibility of postponing these infrastructural works which, moreover, will not interfere with the Spoleto and Umbria Jazz Festival. During the various meetings, also in the presence of specific Trenitalia and RFI technicians, the Region did everything to reduce the inconvenience for travelers which will however involve thousands of users who are advised to check the offer proposed in alternative to interrupted services. These are works that will guarantee higher levels of safety than the current ones and potential improvements in services.”
