The usual questions: Milan don’t show their face, Pioli is out, club without vision

And so 10 days ago when I asked Furlani if the preliminary round against Roma would be decisive for Pioli’s future, receiving the answer: “The usual questions…”, I didn’t ask the usual question but simply the only one that mattered.

Pioli’s story with Milan virtually ends on April 18, it ends ingloriously for the team’s 180 minutes without a backbone, it ends with a lesson from Roma on and off the pitch, with the Giallorossi club having announced the renewal of De Rossi not on the emotional wave of the Quarter Finals, but precisely to make his own choice of field regardless of the final outcome (and certainly also giving himself a small boost before the match).

And at the Olimpico there hasn’t been a Milan manager who has come to put his face on the microphones. Yet Furlani, Ibrahimovic and Moncada were present.
Very, very serious shortcoming. For example, someone like Andrea Agnelli who also has a lot of faults, but when Juventus were eliminated from the Champions League (and it didn’t happen a few times and was never painless) he always came to put his face in front of the microphones. He did it as well as Marotta does it, as Maldini did it. At the Olimpico, however, no one from the Milan management showed their face. And this cannot be good for a club with a lineage like the Rossoneri.

And instead there is a company that only last Wednesday she was quite convinced of keeping Pioli, and now she has decided that enough is enough. Not because you found a better candidate, but because the result was negative and the market can’t take it anymore. And of course the coach is rightly primarily responsible, but he is still still second with a margin of advantage in the championship, a result unfairly not sufficiently recognized for Pioli.

For goodness sake the coach has heavy faults in the matches that count. But it is also true that he achieved a very good result in the championship.

And then maybe the main problem is another: it is that players who are good but not transcendental are considered to be of a higher level. After all, in a 120 million market made up of people who cost 20 million, if you are good you can catch an opportunity for an indisputable value as happened with Pulisic, a bet like Reijnders can turn in your favor, but then you probably got some good players but not decisive.

So what does the Milan club delude itself about? The problem is perhaps telling oneself one virtual reality, like Leao, great championwho however scored 3-goal-3 in the first half of the season; Theo best left back in the worldwhich however defensively is Russian roulette; Maignan best goalkeeper in the worldwhich however, in addition to miracles, also makes periodic errors; Tomori among the best defenders in the world, which however systematically saves nothing on its own; etc.

Believing you are what you are not, this is Milan’s original sin, on and off the pitch. He won a championship with humility, self-sacrifice and awareness. And he lost all three, believing he had once again become Berlusconi’s great Milan, but without having any interpreters.

And in this lack of vision of the club, the giant stands out senseless decision-making policy on the next coach. There was no clear intention. And now that it is there due to the elimination, there is no clear idea: Fonseca and Lopetegui first, now according to the Gazzetta the Galtier and Gallardo ideas are added (objectively very intriguing idea), and Tuttosport supports the Van Bommel thesis with the endorsement of Ibrahimovic. Not to mention the winter scouting contacts with Conte and Thiago Motta. Don’t think that they are just journalistic reconstructions, reality surpasses fantasy.

And with these premises, if Pioli has great responsibilities, how many do those who decide have?

This time, however, there is no Maldini to send away…
