De Carolis is moved. Vitale receives the baton

Greetings from Rear Admiral Donato De Carolis, who has been at the helm of the maritime direction and head of the port of Ancona for years: in his place comes Inspector Admiral Vincenzo Vitale. Yesterday morning the ceremony of the change of command took place in the cruise terminal of the Doric port, in front of the guard of honor and the banners of the Marche Region, the Municipality of Ancona and the Sailors of Italy association, in the presence of the mayor Daniele Silvetti and of the other political and military institutions of Ancona and the region. De Carolis, in his speech interrupted due to emotion and greeted by applause from those present, recalled the multiple reality of the Ancona port, characterized by a high volume of traffic, but also the ecological transition, the protection of life at sea, safety of navigation, the safety of operators on board naval units, the protection of the marine and coastal environment and of water resources, as well as the carrying out, in port, of all economic and productive activities connected to the civil uses of the sea, from that seaside tourism to fishing, from the energy industry to shipbuilding, from maritime transport to nautical pleasure: “An extremely composite picture in which the maritime management has made every possible effort to facilitate an adequate weighing of the national maritime interest of which it is the guarantor “, explained De Carolis. The new commander Vincenzo Vitale in recent years was head of the port of Savona, then head of the maritime management office of Genoa and Liguria, then assistant to the deputy general commander of the port authorities and coast guard of Rome.

Previously also in Yemen and Türkiye. “Among the different and multiple assignments that have spanned my entire long career – said Vitale –, I now find myself here in Ancona facing a further one, an assignment that is very innovative for me and which I will tackle with passion. I know Donato De Carolis since 1996 and I thank him for what he leaves me, I will try to give continuity to his work in Ancona”. Both the commander of the interregional maritime command Center and Capital, division admiral Andrea Romani, and inspector admiral Sergio Liardo, deputy general commander of the port and coast guard captaincy corps, took an active part in the turnover ceremony.
