An innovative guide. Getting to know the Certosa, a practical manual for visiting and discovering it
Descriptive text here

All the news, anecdotes and stories of the Certosa di Ferrara, inherent to the artistic tombs of the modern era, finally contained in a guide, published by Minerva, which was presented yesterday at the Ridotto of the Teatro Comunale.

An idea born from Aldo Manfredini of Amsef, who “wanted to provide Ferrara with a tourist guide, a practical manual for all those who come to visit this place rich in history and meaning. This publication aims to be a tool that facilitates the visit of a monumental complex of great historical and artistic value, even where the visitor walks, even in personal autonomy, among those paths that smell of past history”.

Innovative and present in the volume is the legend of the symbols, iconographic signs and funerary decorations in the context of the Certosa. A journey of discovery and a tool that is the result of research work, a shared commitment with the city aimed at communicating the heritage of our Certosa, which has always witnessed the evolution of the city, as specified by the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Ferrara, which for the occasion also remembered the late Roberto Pazzi, and the other illustrious Ferrarese who rest in the Certosa di Ferrara.

As the publisher, Roberto Mugavero, explained, it collects “news and anecdotes about the Certosa and those who live there”. The architect Flavio Baroni, the photographer Sergio Caselli and Matteo Provasi, professor at the University of Ferrara, then spoke. Riccardo Forni moderated the meeting.

With texts by Simonetta Pazzi and photographs by Sergio Caselli, the guide tells of the prestigious Carthusian monastery built in Ferrara in the 15th century by order of Duke Borso d’Este. It was equipped with artistic masterpieces visible in the internal path of the Church of San Cristoforo. After the Napoleonic edicts, the external area was transformed into the most majestic of the city cemeteries in which, from the 19th century to the present day, artistic memories and memories of illustrious Ferrara residents have alternated and been preserved. History, maps and itineraries facilitate the visitor who wishes to discover these treasures.
