This collection of essays highlights the centrality of Taranto and its hinterland in the development of projects related to the visual arts. After the years of the economic boom, marked by the affirmation of a development model that would have altered the environmental and anthropological balance of the territory, simultaneously stimulating a lively critical-cultural debate, even in the last decades of the 20th century the Ionian capital retained a propulsive drive in terms of experimentation with languages and the organization of exhibition events. New galleries and research collectives are born. New actors and interventions are emerging that broaden the reflection on the work of art and its social value, in line with what is happening on the international scene.
With a passionate analysis, the result of archival research, the authors bring to light aspects that are unpublished or little investigated by historiography, adding a fundamental piece to the historical reorganization of the events of contemporary art in Italy.
