The appointment for DJ Gigi D’Agostino is next June 21st at the Rho Milan Fair. His first concert after four years of absence. Absence due to illness. At the Sanremo Festival the Captain returned to spinning records. The thing he loves most along with life. Because that one was slipping away from him and now «I’m no longer who I was before. After all, if you end up under a train and save yourself, the damage remains. But now I have this wonderful second life that I didn’t think I could have and I’m happy about it, I see glimmers of light where I thought there was only darkness.”

The story

Words spoken in an interview with La Repubblica, with my colleague Carlo Moretti. Here DJ D’Agostino said he felt excluded, discriminated against because he was ill. So he closed himself off until Amadeus called him. From here the Captain is ready to leave again.

A captain born by chance (“The name has nothing to do with rank and uniform, but with the idea of the journey”), like his success. Arrived late. «At the beginning of the nineties I felt terrible. I was isolated, misunderstood, without money. There were no places where I could play my type of music, the clubs took me on a trial basis and soon after fired me, for them I wasn’t very pop. In Turin I had to work hard to organize small events which, fortunately for me, later became big.”

Among his great global successes he recalls to La Repubblica, “L’amour toujours” and “Bla Bla Bla”: «It amazes me every day, it’s something mysterious. Success is dreamed of, who doesn’t want it? But it’s one thing to have the desire to make what’s inside you scream out loud and it’s another thing to chase success at all costs: the first way gets you into people’s homes, I don’t know about the second.”

When Gigi D’Agostino started playing «the DJ was a nightclub worker like the others, like the bartender. Now he is a golden world but often also overrated.”
