all research projects financed with Pnrr funds

From studies on myeloma, leukemia and Car-T at Sant’Orsola to tests for the early diagnosis of Parkinson’s at the Institute of Neurological Sciences up to the new tools for the diagnosis of osteoporosis at Rizzoli. These are some of the 18 projects awarded with Pnrr funds on biomedical research (over 17 million euros) in Bologna alone in a region, such as Emilia-Romagna, which has seen one project in ten awarded, among the 334 that at a national level have received funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Our region is thus at the top in Italy for the number of approved projects, 39, and funding received: over 35 million euros. At the end of the approval process, this was certified by the publication on the website of the Ministry of Health of the rankings of the second public notice of the Pnrr relating to the investment “Enhancement and strengthening of biomedical research in the NHS”.

The funding received from Sant’Orsola

The funding obtained by Irccs Sant’Orsola for eight studies selected at ministerial level amounts to almost seven million euros. They range from research on myeloma and leukemia to research on CAR-T therapies, from treatments against decompensated cirrhosis to the risks linked to obesity, up to studies on survival from sarcomas, on rejection after heart transplant and on the role of pollution in the development of respiratory tumors. «Financing good research is one of the pillars on which to build the future of medicine – comments Marco Seri, scientific director of Irccs -, we are proud to be at the forefront on this front and every resource is precious to grow our work at the service of the community”. At Sant’Orsola, adds the scientific director, «the greatest number of resources has arrived at a regional level. A result possible thanks to the excellent team of researchers and all those who work in the research infrastructure of this hospital.”

The seven Rizzoli projects

There are seven IRCCS Rizzoli projects with funding of 6.6 million euros. New therapies and biobank networks for musculoskeletal tumors and rare diseases, innovations in the diagnosis of osteoporosis, new solutions to reduce the impact of prosthesis failures and improve spinal surgery techniques: these are the themes of the selected projects. «The Rizzoli develops, in joint work between laboratories and departments, international reference innovation – comments the general director Anselmo Campagna -, thanks also to these resources, we continue to carry out research activities that guarantee significant results for our patients today and tomorrow”.

Bordon: satisfied with the resources obtained

Finally, there are four projects of the Neurological Sciences Institute awarded by the tender with 3.2 million euros, divided into four research areas: rare diseases, rare tumors, chronic non-communicable diseases with a high impact on health and social care systems. «We are very satisfied with having obtained this funding – explains general director Paolo Bordon -, a result resulting from the great dedication to planning and innovation that characterizes us”. «The results of this research will contribute significantly to our knowledge and our ability to treat neurological diseases», adds scientific director Raffaele Lodi.
