ANCONA – What to do in case of natural disasters: new technologies come to the aid of rescuers but also of citizens themselves, indispensable tools for the protection of citizens in emergency management. This is the topic that was discussed this morning in the main hall of the faculty Agriculture of theMarche Polytechnic Universityon the occasion of the conference organized by Anci Marche together with the university itself. The message that emerges from the comparison is that the digital transition will help improve emergency management and even if zero risk does not exist, much can be done to improve all phases that concern risk. Risk management is divided into forecasting, prevention, emergency, post-emergency and reconstruction. «Civil Protection, technology and science already collaborate very actively – he said Fabrizio Curciohead of the Civil Protection department who spoke in connection – but this almost continuous transition phase must go hand in hand with the ability to adapt of public administrations and municipalities”.

Many participants at the conference, including numerous mayors from the Marche region, many of whom were directly involved in the earthquake and flood. Marco D’Orazio, pro-rector of Univpm, underlined «the value of the synergy between local authorities, therefore Anci Marche and universities considering the many areas of research that the university is carrying out». The desire to strengthen the relationship on emergency prevention issues was confirmed Marco Fioravanti, president of Anci Marche: «For us mayors who are always on the front line towards our citizens even and above all in the face of calamitous events – he explained -, the first commitment is the protection of our communities. Being able to learn how science is evolving gives us confidence and hope.”

The regional councilor also intervened Goffredo Brandoni, delegated by President Acquaroli, also on behalf of Councilor Aguzzi, who underlined «the commitment of this council both to making the institutional chain that goes from local authorities to the government work as best as possible, and to facilitating and supporting the work of the commissioners for the disasters that have already occurred and for which reconstruction is underway”. The deputy mayor spoke for the Municipality of Ancona which hosted the event Giovanni Zinni and the councillor Marco Battino: «Digital innovation is fundamental in emergency management, in order to be able to predict certain scenarios and be ready. In this, the role of the university is fundamental for what are theoretical models set in a real context. Through these new technologies we are able to make truthful simulations. The university once again proves to be of great value for our territory and for the entire community.”

From the technical contributions of the various speakers, it clearly emerged how digital systems positively influence the management and overcoming of emergencies and how research is moving to implement a continuous improvement of the tools useful for to communicate potential or ongoing risk situations among operators of the civil protection system e between them and the population. At the panel discussionwith the participation of Roberto Oreficini, national vice-president of the major risks forecasting and prevention commission and consultant of Anci Marche, of senator Guido Castelli, commissioner for the 2016 earthquake reconstruction, and of Stefano Babini, deputy commissioner post-flood in the Marche, specific cases were brought that they concern post-emergency restoration and reconstruction with respect to potential calamitous situations linked to hydraulic and hydrogeological risk and seismic risk.
