The vice president of the Region, the Northern League member Fabio Carossowill face the next regional elections in search of reconfirmation, asking voters to give him the opportunity to continue the work carried out in the last five years, but for Silvia Ferraris, mayor of Castello di Annone, «this is a new challenge» aware that for an administrator, as are the mayors of the small municipalities of Asti, «having a point of reference in the Region is fundamental for solving many problems». For her, beyond the Covid emergency, one of the most difficult difficulties of her mandate was the affair of the hub for the reception of refugees in the former military base. «One of the first big problems was immigration – she explains during the presentation of her candidacy – I am aligned with the party’s policy regarding security and immigration, because it is a question of rules and points of reference. Castello di Annone has always been a welcoming place for refugees, but projects are needed to be able to integrate these people into the host community.”

Territory, security, productivity are the key words of Silvia Ferraris’s candidacy for Palazzo Lascaris while Fabio Carosso, presenting an assessment of the work carried out, thanked the League for having given him the opportunity to be on the Cirio Council and for having held the position of vice president. «It was possible because five years ago we achieved a historic result – he recalls – We have always maintained that a small province must have great strength; the people of Asti put their trust in us and I tried to represent them all. I can say that we have brought the entire Asti area to the attention of the Region.”

The deputy presented the two Northern League candidates Andrea Giaccone who claimed the primary role of the League in the Cirio Council: «The territories have been put back at the center of political action and the Region looks to the territories as a driving force». As regards the Asti area, Carosso said he was optimistic for the future, for economic growth, but in the present he described an overall good situation: «The League represented the companies very well – he comments – and we know that today In Asti it is difficult to find staff, there are many job situations and opportunities, so it means that the Asti area is growing.”

For the League, it is necessary to invest in tourism and Carosso himself announced that he has spoken with an entrepreneur who might be interested in investing in the former hospital to make it, among others, a hotel, accommodation for students and partly commercial. «Given that I am not a real estate developer, but there has been a change of pace regarding the former hospital in recent years because now, in addition to being able to sell it, there is the possibility of making it profitable. Asti will grow not only if politicians make efforts – he adds – but if the city’s entrepreneurs believe in their territory. Here there are entrepreneurs who have the funds to create the structures, like in Alba where local entrepreneurs have invested a lot.”

While waiting for the results of the appeal launched by the League to be seen, Mayor Rasero still left for China to continue building bridges with potential investors. Even though the League’s lack of sympathy towards Beijing is known, Giaccone, when asked about this latest trip, replied by agreeing with Rasero: «Going to look for connections and opportunities is a beautiful thing. China is a competitor of the West on an international level and on the geopolitical scenario, but with regards to local implications it is a good idea to explore all the avenues that exist.”

As regards the objective of the regional elections, the League will aim «to have one more vote than the Brothers of Italy» in what it defines as «healthy internal competition», but keeping in mind that «the opponent to beat is the centre-left ».
