The renovated synthetic five-a-side football pitch in the parish of SS was inaugurated on Thursday 18 April. Cosma and Damiano in Acireale, led by the parish priest Don Rosario Pappalardo. Present as guests were the general director of Acireale Calcio Pasquale Leonardo with some members, the president of the Csi – Acireale Committee Salvo Raffa with the spiritual assistant Don Egidio Vecchio. For the occasion, a triangular match was played between the teams of the parish, Caritas and the “Never Alone” Association: the three entities that, together with some benefactors, allowed the realization of the work. Investing in projects that promote culture and social integration through sport is one of the objectives that the bishop Msgr. Antonino Raspanti, intends to reach the territory. The diocese, committed to supporting people in difficulty, aims to promote inclusion and a sense of community among young and old with the five-a-side football pitch. It is also a community meeting point, where it is possible to organize events and activities that go beyond simply playing five-a-side football, including training programs and educational meetings. In this way, the camp becomes a multipurpose resource that enriches the community on multiple fronts.

“The pitch – declares Don Orazio Caputo, president of the Never More Alone Association – is not only a place to practice sport, but it is also a meeting and cohesion point for the parish, city and diocesan community. It is a tangible example of how help and solidarity can transform our local realities. Sport unites various realities, overcomes barriers and creates lasting bonds in the community. Football is not just a sport, it also promotes values of union and cooperation”. The “Madre Teresa” Solidarity Emporium has also opened in Acireale in Corso Savoia 102. It is a collection center for used clothes in good condition made available to the less well-off. Both the donors of clothes and the “customers” with their donations support charitable causes and the maintenance of the emporium itself. The association also produces jams to support participation activities.
