Viterbo – Mariano Buratti High School

Viterbo – We receive and publish – With great pride, we share the incredible experience that involved our sons and daughters and from 8 to 14 April 2024 in a cultural and linguistic exchange between the 3B class of the Mariano Buratti classical high school in Viterbo and the school Spessart Gymnasium in Alzenau.

This week saw 17 German children hosted in Italian families, accompanied by their principal and two teachers. It is important to underline that this twinning was born as an exclusive initiative of the Mariano Buratti high school, thanks to the teaching method of Professor Rubini, a ‘living Latin’ who aroused the interest of the Alzenau school.

Our boys and girls had already visited Germany last October, immersing themselves in German culture with a warm welcome. This time, they hosted the students, German friends, offering them a carefully studied program, which included visits to culturally significant places such as Civita di Bagnoregio, Tarquinia, Tuscania, Rome and of course, Viterbo, city of the popes and of Santa Rosa .

During the excursions, the boys acted as tourist guides, alternating moments in English and Latin, following in the footsteps of the great ‘ciceroni’. The week culminated in a final party, at the theater of the parish of Saints Valentine and Hilary which saw tears of joy and emotion, highlighting how this experience left an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all the participants: students and parents.

Special thanks to professors Lanotte and Rubini, without them, none of this would have been possible, and to the head teacher Dr. Clara Vittori for this extraordinary opportunity for cultural and linguistic growth.

We end with a Latin phrase: Experientia docet. Experience teaches, and this will undoubtedly be an important chapter in the education of our boys and girls.

Thank you with all my heart!
