Fiorita, ‘Catanzaro is a candidate for Italian capital of art’

‘We will show off our aces up our sleeves for the occasion’

“Catanzaro is now applying for the title of Italian Capital of Contemporary Art 2025.

As soon as the Ministry of Culture adopts the tender announced by Minister Sangiuliano, we will present our candidacy, showing three aces up our sleeve: the City of Mimmo Rotella, who was one of the undisputed protagonists of contemporary art on the world scene, the International Park of sculpture – the open-air museum of the Biodiversity Park so rich in contemporary works – and the presence of a prestigious Academy of Fine Arts”.

This is what the mayor of Catanzaro Nicola Fiorita states in a note.

“It won’t be easy to get on the podium, because there will be other authoritative nominations – adds Fiorita – but I believe that Catanzaro deserves this recognition which would bring not only honor and glory, but also substantial financial funding from the Ministry. We have already started discussions with the Province, the Academy of Fine Arts and the Rotella Foundation, with whom we will immediately get to work to prepare a serious project that can lead to the awarding of the title.
We will obviously focus on the figure of maestro Rotella, exponent of international artistic movements such as the Nouveaux réalistes, Mec-art and his famous décollages”.

“The contribution of the International Sculpture Park, the intuition of Michele Traversa, which offers works by artists of the caliber of Tony Cragg, Mimmo Paladino, Jan Fabre, Michelangelo Pistoletto, Daniel Buren and many others will be notable – underlines the mayor of the Calabrian capital Still. But we will also think of an original idea to create a large ‘residence’ capable of hosting artists from all over the world, a privilege that the Ministry will award to the winning city. We await the publication of the announcement and then we will dive into this beautiful and exciting adventure.”
