“We will not allow this work to die in silence”

On 16 May 2023 the “Sinistra per Isola” group, through its minority representative in the city council Enzo Di Pietro, presented a written question to the Mayor, relating to the “Wildlife Park Project”, which should be implemented in area of the former Cogefar tunnel construction sites (approximately 23 hectares), recovered, reclaimed and reinstated as state property.

In summary, we asked the Mayor to explain the reasons why after three years of proclamations, the Administration has not taken a step forward and has not entered the Foundation, which should deal with its creation and then its management (fundamental step to begin the work). Although the regulation establishes that the Mayor must respond within one month, the deadline is well overdue!!!!!

Faced with the Mayor’s repeated non-compliance, on 10/24/2023, we were forced to forward a complaint to the Prefect of Teramo to denounce the Mayor’s behavior. A few days later the Prefect wrote to the Mayor “kindly” inviting him to fulfill his task of answering Councilor Enzo Di Pietro’s question. The Mayor’s response has finally arrived, in which it essentially states that the failure to carry out the work depends on the Park which is no longer interested!!!!

At the same time, the Park claims that it cannot begin construction of the work until the municipal administration of Isola del Gran Sasso becomes part of the Foundation. How is it possible that in the era of communication, it is so complicated for the Mayor and the President of the Park to feel, meet, clarify, avoiding making fun of the Population?!?!?

The risk is that this ridiculous passing the buck of responsibilities leads to the loss of allocated and available funds and therefore to the loss of an opportunity to enhance our territory: the wildlife park is an opportunity for sustainable tourism development, employment opportunities and support to all related economic activities that could benefit from the benefits deriving from the influx of people that the wildlife area would attract to our territory.

This shifting of responsibilities between the Park and the Municipal Administration is a shame… in spite of the depopulation of the mountain areas which the Administration and the Park say, in words, they want to remedy!!!!!!!!

We say to the municipal administration that we will not allow this work to die in silence! At the Park we say that it’s time to stop behaving like the “Sunday environmentalists” who come to “legislate” to make life more difficult for those who live in the territory, know it, protect it and respect it!!!!
