«Indecent and dangerous sidewalks, our forgotten seafront»

PESARO – Capital summer among artistic flowerbeds, events and inaugurations, all tourist-proof of course, yet there are hoteliers in Ponente, the last stretch towards the port who complain about a long series of disconnected and deteriorated sidewalks and flowerbeds. Anything but a capital seafront, the managers of the Atlantic, Mare and Nettuno hotels relaunch.

The situation

There are bumpy walkways reported several times by the same activities to the Administration which await a response. «Part of the seaside area – say hoteliers and public establishments – especially behind Viale Trieste is anything but a tidy postcard for tourists arriving for the Capital of Culture. And it is not enough to have asphalted and repaired just the stretch of Viale Fiume. There are still less than decent areas.”

If, we remember, the reconstruction of the pavements of Viale Fiume began last winter, after having been requested several times by hoteliers such as the Napoleon, Ambassador hotels and other activities, others, however, are waiting and the overview that shows Paolo Campagnoli, manager of the hotel Mare, is made up of various examples. «We start from a missing stretch that was not included in the previous round of renovations – he observes – between Viale della Vittoria, Viale Fiume and Viale Gorizia, where the state of the pavements is incredible with sections of paving that are so damaged or raised by the roots of the large pine trees, which are impassable on foot or with bikes which, among other things, we hoteliers also give to our customers for use. Then there are the sidewalks of Viale Trento, not one but several disconnected sections that have been left like this for some time where the furrows of the roots of large trees are evident, sections where there is no asphalt and there are potholes.

The examples

«An example near the Sylvia hotel and still between via Vanzolini and viale Marconi. Don’t forget the state Viale della Vittoria is in after the intersection with Viale della Repubblica. The stretch from the Curvone car park continuing towards the port is painful. There are portions where the pavement is either not there or is interrupted.” Other examples come from Paolo Severi of Pizzeria Farina and Marco Urbinati of the Nettuno hotel. «I never had a response to the certified email sent in May 2023 – comments the pizzeria manager Farina – I’m talking about the walkways all along via Leonardo Da Vinci, right behind viale Trieste. The two flowerbeds in front of mine and other businesses for which I had asked the Municipality and Aspes for repairs are still in disrepair. The first flowerbed does not have a tree and has therefore been empty for almost five years, the second has caused part of the pavement to break due to the roots of the unreplaced trees and it is dangerous to pass through. We remind you that for the restyling of the pavements of Viale Fiume the Public Works service invested around 250 thousand but left behind the same number of pavements from the west towards the port. «Every year we make our requests but most of these do not receive concrete answers – complains Campagnoli, who speaks on behalf of the hotels on the last stretch of the Ponente – we ask for the repair of the damaged and dangerous sections before the season starts. Just as we would like to overcome the habit of always paving sidewalks with asphalt. Why do we ask ourselves, does the Administration not use another type of material, perhaps coloured, as there is on the Romagna seafront or in Gabicce, for our entire seaside area, and for example to arrange the pedestrian area behind the new Scavolini Auditorium? If there is the will, there is still time.”
