The Sagra Musicale Malatestiana in Rimini turns 75

RIMINI, 19 APR – Now in its 75th edition, the Sagra Musicale Malatestiana in Rimini reaches the important milestone with a program that once again hosts conductors, orchestras and soloists of international prestige, while also offering the spotlight to young talents and projects which intersect music with other artistic languages, ranging from ancient music to newly composed music. A festival now extended from spring to winter which has, as usual, its greatest attraction in the symphony concerts starting from the inauguration, on 1 September at the Galli Theatre, with the famous Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam conducted by Myung-Whun Chung in Johannes Brahms’ Fourth Symphony and in Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto with soloist Andras Schiff. On 12 September Vladimir Jurowski returns, this time at the head of the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin in a program largely dedicated to Brahms with the Variations on a theme by Haydn, the First Symphony and, in the centre, the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto with Augustin Hadelich’s bow. Another return is that of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra conducted by Gianandrea Noseda (17 September) who, before the finale with Beethoven’s Fifth, will lead Jan Lisiecki and Francesco Piemontesi in Mozart’s Concerto for two pianos and orchestra. Unmissable, due to the originality and visionary nature of the character, is the Rimini debut (13 October) of Teodor Currentzis who with his orchestra MusicAeterna will perform Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony. And again, the two hundredth anniversary of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony will be the opportunity to listen (28 October) to the musicians of the Leonore Orchestra, a formation founded and directed by Daniele Giorgi, with the Philharmonischer Chor Műnchen in one of the greatest masterpieces of all times. Other guests of the event include the Tokyo Ballet (29 November), the pianist Beatrice Rana (2 October), the violinist Giuliano Carmignola paired with the cellist Mario Brunello (13 December).
