LIVORNO – Below is the press release that arrived in the editorial office with the intervention of the candidate for mayor Costanza Vaccaro on the serious situation of via Cambini and via Roma.

“The latest events that occurred in via Cambini and via Roma represent a big problem for our city. We must certainly encourage the socialization of young people, allow them to spend an evening in company, but this must not undermine the sacrosanct freedom of residents to live without enormous inconvenience” are the words of Costanza Vaccaro, candidate for mayor of Livorno for Alternativa Popolare and Noi for them with Bandecchi for Vaccaro mayor.

“Via Cambini and Via Roma become a no-man’s land at night: loud music, acts of vandalism, decay, even becoming open-air urinals. This is no longer tolerable. Residents must have the tranquility they deserve, be able to rest at night and above all not suffer acts of intimidation if they try to assert their rights. A situation that has been going on for years and is becoming increasingly alarming after the latest events with the explosion of some firecrackers, to the point that an elderly lady living in the area felt ill. Given the great work that our police forces do, despite the serious shortage of staff in which they are forced to operate, we had asked the municipal administration to activate a night patrol service in the area, paid for by the municipality, through surveillance private company which, in constant contact with the police, reports situations of interest to public order, including those relating to factors of noise or degradation, which affect urban safety. We therefore learn with a positive spirit the news of the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the activation of a security system in synergy between security guards and law enforcement to guarantee safety in the city. The only regret is that we proposed our act entitled ‘watchmen of the night’ to the administration years ago but it was promptly rejected, denying the problem of security in the city. If it had been activated then, we would have saved citizens from many difficulties and insecurities.”
