“The law under discussion in the Chamber has risks: we perceive that if it is not well followed and well designed, it risks dramatically accentuating the inequalities between the territories of Italy”. Thus the bishop of Acireale and president of the Sicilian Episcopal Conference, Msgr. Antonino Raspanti, speaking on the program “L’interview” broadcast tonight, at 8.30 pm, on Rei TV. “The nation cannot be split in two, as it already is from an infrastructural and income point of view – he adds -. Some territories must not remain detached, ghettoized. Inequalities are unbearable because they create problems of social stability and rights that are so big that it could lead to real breakdowns in the social and political order. Which no one hopes for.”
Also focusing on infrastructure, the bishop highlighted how “our products require enormous expenditure to reach Central Europe and are subject to delays due to infrastructure”. “On the other hand, tourism has to face higher prices to reach us. So, let’s start from a disadvantaged position. This is neither correct nor fair.” Among other topics, the migrations of young people, the reception of migrants and the essential levels of health services. “People are already unable to buy medicines today. Do we want to make this situation even worse? We need a wide-ranging and truly planning policy.”
Finally, the electoral appointment for the European elections. “The risk of abstentionism is real, because Europe is felt or made to feel distant, in my opinion unfairly. Without the EU we would be far behind. But these things are not told. We too as Sicilian bishops will make an appeal to vote.”
