Olbia, Anpi’s Joyce Lussu Prize awarded to Paolo Fresu

«I am very honored to receive this award which, for me, has many meanings». He thus thanks the musician Paolo Fresu, awarded the Joyce Lussu Prize who, this morning in the Simpliciana Civic Library of Olbia, presented him with the third edition of the recognition dedicated to a “true partisan”, writer and poet, established by Anpi Gallura, with the collaboration of the Berlinguer Foundation, and the patronage of the Municipality, to pay homage to personalities who have distinguished themselves in their artistic and civil commitment in defense of constitutional values and anti-fascism.

«I like to think that the prize I receive today was not awarded just because I play the trumpet well but, above all, because it is a reward for the work we do and how we do it to contribute to the growth of society: I own a trumpet which is the instrument to tell what I am, with music which is the representation of an inner voice, of an experience, of “su connottu””, continues the trumpeter from Berchidda (and world famous), where in 1988 he created Time in jazz of which the docufilm Berchidda live is being released tomorrow in cinemas on the island, a journey into the archives of the international jazz festival which has been renewed for 37 summers in the town at the foot of the Limbara.

And then, adds Fresu, «it is an award that is awarded in Sardinia and this adds a piece to “su connottu” and an invitation to delve deeper into the themes of insularity and Sardinia».

Taken from the image of the poster of the next April 25th of the Anpi, the Joyce Lussu Prize awarded to Fresu is a wooden poppy that holds a woman among its petals, created by the students of the Amsicora high school in Olbia. The ceremony was attended by the Councilor for Culture of the Municipality of Olbia, Sabrina Serra, the presidents of Anpi Gallura, Domenico Piccinnu, and of the national Anpi, Vincenzo Calò, who exalted the values of the Constitution, the figure of Joyce Lussu and the meaning of the award dedicated to her.
