There are currently 138 “context” cameras active in the municipal area of Piacenza. A number of devices that rises to 193 if we also consider the cameras for reading license plates, for ZTL and APU gates, mobile cameras, those of the so-called intelligent traffic lights, radio links and servers. This number could increase by a further 18 cameras if the Ministry were to accept a ad hoc project prepared by the Municipality, and in particular by the local Police, and approved on Wednesday 17 April at the Committee for public order and safety.
The Prefecture will now forward it to the Ministry and if the OK arrives, Piacenza will be able to equip itself with a further 18 latest generation cameras, 14 of which for reading license plates and 4 for context; an important piece of equipment with a view, among other things, to implementing control of access and exit from the city.
URBAN SECURITY INITIATIVES
And, still on the subject of video surveillance, the Municipality of Piacenza – with a resolution that will be discussed by the council next Friday – intends to present an application for access to the ministerial fund for the strengthening of urban security initiatives for the purchase of technological devices and systems to be installed in the operations room of the local police also dedicated to the interconnection of the same room with a new Control Room-SOC (Security Operations Center) for the implementation of the video surveillance system and for the connection with the operations rooms of the other forces of the order.
OPERATIONAL TABLE
Returning to the 193 devices installed in the Piacenza area, the data concerns those that are currently in operation at the end of the mapping and maintenance and repair plan managed by a special working group wanted by the mayor Katia Tarasconi and coordinated by the general director of the Municipality Luca Canessa; table which in the last three months has seen the operational participation of the local police commander Mirko Mussi as well as managers and specialists from various sectors of the institution: Public Works, Heritage, Infrastructure and information services.
From the need to restore the functioning of the Guazzo alley cameraexpressly reported by the mayor, the Administration decided to “take stock” of the situation in the city and throughout the Municipality with reference to the cameras already installed but which, in some cases, were not active or malfunctioning, also because it was to allow different technological systems, installed over a period of years, to “dialogue”, all in compliance with the increasingly stringent regulations on privacy and cyber security.
The work of the table, which still takes place on a regular basis, has included a series of interventions in the area, also regarding planning for additional devices to be installed or for whom a different and more functional location is needed than the current one.
THE DETAIL OF THE CAMERAS
In detail, there are 122 context cameras (i.e. those that record 24 hours a day everything that happens in their “field of vision”) currently installed across cities and hamlets. Added to these are another 16 cameras, again in context, installed at the municipal stadium. There are 21 license plate reading cameras, 17 located at the gates of the Ztl (Limited Traffic Zone), at the Apu gates (Urban pedestrian area) and to control the preferential lanes.
There are two mobile cameras available to municipal staff, 7 “traffic light” ones. A drone is also available for particular surveys from above, for which local police operators have followed specific training and qualification courses. Added to these devices are 5 radio links, to which some of the cameras active in the city and the surrounding areas are connected, and two servers.
ONTHEROAD PROJECT
Finally, the installation of three context cameras as part of the project is planned Ontheroad . And again, a context camera will also be installed to control the area of via Caorsana-Strada Torre della Razza, two context cameras at the municipal stadium and three devices at the Ztl, Apu and preferential lane gates.
Also noteworthy is the establishment within the local police of an operational unit specialized in the management of video surveillance systems and technological equipment; unit composed of two technicians and two police operators.
