Red paint against the Israeli flag in the Municipality

A throw of red paint in Piazza del Popolo, a large stain of blood under the flag of Israel posted on the building of the Municipality of Faenza, next to the flag of peace, of Palestine and the banner “Cease fire now”. This is how Faenza woke up this morning. A series of flyers were posted in the streets of the historic center to explain the gesture, conceived against the decision of the administration and the city council to display the three flags and the banner next to each other in Palazzo Manfredo. April 17 was chosen because it was considered a day of solidarity with Palestinian prisoners.

“You cannot display the flag of Israel and that of peace because Israel is a colonial state, in which apartheid exists, made up of illegally occupied territories, a state whose economy is based on the production and export of military and surveillance technologies (thanks also to collaborations with our academic institutions, including Unibo”

“You cannot put up the flag of Israel and the flag of peace because Gaza has been under attack by Israel and its allies since well before October 2023, especially for the control of gas fields in Gaza waters”

“You raised us in memory of the Holocaust, anti-fascism and school trips to Auschwitz. We will not remain silent while the trauma of the Shoah is exploited to legitimize another genocide which we witness not only helplessly, but also criminalized as anti-Semites and terrorists every time we say: ‘Long live freedom'”

These are some of the sentences reported in the flyers. The red paint stain was cleaned up in the morning by workers from the Faenza municipality.
