900 thousand euro house confiscated from the mafia and given to the Municipality: it will house eight families

PORDENONE – That criminal organizations have reached this point at the threshold of Noncello It’s certainly nothing new. An important fact certainly demonstrates this, which also ended in good times. Yes, because following investigations by Dia, some time ago, a building resulting from investments linked to organized crime was also seized in Pordenone. An entire condominium of worth over one million euros, purchased with dirty money, evidently, to put it back into circulation and increase mafia assets. That confiscation, however, brought two positive aspects. The first linked to the investigations that managed to put an end to a ring that could perhaps have become increasingly popular in the city, the second to give back to those in need a bit of serenity.

The future destination of the building

That building, in fact, confiscated from criminal organizations, it will be used for social and charitable purposes and will be managed by the Municipality of Pordenone. The Heritage Councilor, Giuseppe Verdichizzi, explained it the other evening as he chronicled a success. In practice, about two years ago a communication arrived from the Ministry which, in addition to the Municipality, was sent to other institutions operating in the city. There was, in fact, a two-storey building with eight apartments is available in via Castelfranco Veneto. That was precisely the building confiscated from the mafia and which the State wanted to put back into circulation. «We were told immediately – explained Verdichizzi – that the use was necessarily socialotherwise the property would have been taken back.” As mentioned, other bodies also competed with the Municipality, but evidently the project chosen by the Minister was that of the Municipality. And so in recent days the heritage councilor received the keys and immediately went to see the conditions with the municipal technicians.

The inspection of the building

As mentioned, the building is in via Castelfranco, it is a property from 2009, never inhabited and is currently empty. There are eight apartments, all equipped with cellar and garage. The Ministry also informed the municipal administration that we are talking about a property worth over 900 thousand euros. The Heritage Councilor obviously immediately said yes and the resolution was passed to the council. At this point it’s a matter of doing a little sprucing up, repainting, fixing some fixtures and in any case – as Giuseppe Verdichizzi explained – very little compared to the value of the property also because, as mentioned, it has never been used.

The planning

Once the works are completed, with the councilor for Social Services, Guglielmina Cucci, it will be continued the social project linked to the use of the building. In practice, as the representative of Mayor Alessandro Ciriani’s executive explained – there are still many families who at the moment not only don’t have the money to pay rent, but the absence of municipally owned properties forces them to live in hotels. Eight of these families will find accommodation in this building which was confiscated from criminal organizations. Guglielmina Cucci also pointed out the other evening during the city council meeting that the numbers of families in difficulty in Pordenone are constantly increasing and that there are more and more Italians. Several families also have an income, as at least one of the two parents works, but the salary is too low to pay the rent and also be able to maintain a standard of living to guarantee the children a future. A situation, therefore, which is also highlighting increasingly greater problems in cities. One of the opposition’s recommendations was to be able to create new spaces in the area to accommodate beaten women who run away from home with their children, also thanks to the availability of these new accommodations. It is clear, however, that in this case a hidden accommodation is necessary so as not to put them in danger.
