The sentence of 24 years and six months inflicted on Alberto Scagni for the murder of his sister Alice, massacred with 19 stab wounds outside the house in Genoa on 1 May 2022, was confirmed on appeal. For the judges, although partially mentally ill, the accused had the crime was premeditated.
A decision that displeases Alberto’s parents, both injured parties and civil parties in the same trial: «Our son must be looked after, instead they put him in prison and then when he is old in a Rems (residence for the execution of security measures, ed. )», the comment of the mother, Antonella Zarri, as she left the courtroom. The need for treatment and hospitalization in Rems before serving the sentence had been reiterated by the lawyers during the oral argument, while the prosecutor had asked for a life sentence because the accused would have been perfectly capable of understanding what he was doing that evening , when he threatened to kill his sister if his parents didn’t give him the money he asked for. After the phone call Alberto went to the house and waited for Alice for hours, when she arrived he killed her. In the meantime, the father, frightened by his son’s growing aggressiveness, had called the police operations center to report the danger, but instead of intervening the officers told him to stay at home and to call back if his son came to them. Reason why after the tragedy the parents of Alberto and Alice filed a complaint against two officers from the station and a psychiatrist from the ASL3 who was supposed to meet Alberto, a visit which was then postponed, because according to them the alarms and requests for help had been underestimated . The complaint was recently dismissed because, according to the judge, the crime would have been unpredictable and the three defendants would have acted correctly. Alberto was in court yesterday, for the first time after the beating that took place in Sanremo prison which put him in a medically induced coma.
After the sentence was pronounced he remained silent.
