Dozens of interventions

Between the afternoon and a good part of the evening, dozens of interventions were made by the firefighters and the local police due to the sudden wave of bad spring weather.

In particular, those caused by the Bora wind which, in some moments, even exceeded one hundred kilometers per hour.

It seemed like the middle of winter, with the fire brigade and municipal vehicles forced to intervene in every part of the city to make cornices, roof coverings and window frames safe. Or, precisely, to clear away the shrubs that have fallen dangerously along the roads.

The strong bora also knocked the large Caliterna car park sign in Muggia to the ground, shattering it. Fortunately there were no injuries or damage to the vehicles. The local police intervened on site.

Furthermore, in mid-afternoon, a blackout also occurred in various parts of the city. As a precaution, the Municipality of Trieste closed the public gardens early.

Overwork in port

However, no particular flooding caused by the rain was recorded, nor any risky situations for boats in the Gulf, as confirmed by the Port Authority during the afternoon.

“The Port of Trieste recently faced serious difficulties due to a sudden worsening of weather conditions that affected the entire Gulf. Strong gusts of wind, blackouts and interruptions to commercial operations have put our port and moored ships to the test – we read in a statement -. Thanks to the exceptional work of the Technical Nautical Services and Terminal Operators together with all the police forces operating in the port area, we are pleased to confirm that the situation was managed promptly and professionally. Despite the challenges encountered, no serious incidents occurred.”

“All actors involved worked tirelessly to restore normal operations as soon as conditions permitted. The rapid and coordinated intervention made it possible to mitigate the effects of the bad weather and guarantee the safety of all those involved.

The Trieste Coast Guard extends its thanks to everyone for their commitment and professionalism during this emergency. By working together, we managed to overcome these difficulties in a very short time and maintain the efficiency of port operations”.

Heavy inconveniences also in Carnia in the areas of Tolmezzo, Paularo and Pontebba.

Problems of various kinds also affected road conditions due to material carried by the wind onto various road surfaces.

Damage was recorded throughout Middle Friuli, with numerous reports of cabins and electrical panels set on fire. Trees uprooted and sheds uncovered also at Codroipowhere gusts of wind tore away the roof of the Bricofer on state road 13.
