Local health authority Umbria 2 «Today, 16 April 2024 at 3 pm, a notification was received from the Terni Hospital for a case of dengue fever in a fifty-year-old lady resident in the municipality of Terni and hospitalized at Santa Maria – writes the Umbria 2 Local Health Authority in a Note -. Following the directives of the National Plan for prevention, surveillance and response to Arbovirosis (PNA) 2020-2025, an extraordinary anti-mosquito disinfestation of the area was proposed to the Mayor of the Municipality of Terni with the aim of preventing potential secondary infections carried by Aedes albopictus (so-called tiger mosquito), vector responsible for the transmission of this virus. Dengue, in fact, is caused by four very similar viruses (Den-1, Den-2, Den-3 and Den-4) and is transmitted to humans by the bites of these mosquitoes which, in turn, bite an infected person . There is therefore no direct contagion between humans, even if humans are the main host of the virus. The virus circulates in the blood of the infected person for 2-7 days, and in this period the mosquito can pick it up and transmit it to others.”
