Verona – “The Wines and Extra Virgin Olive Oils of Calabria – The Sommelier Guide AIS – Wines and extra virgin olive oils of Calabria” published by Rubbettino and is the new and most complete guide to tell the world (with texts also in English) about the wines and the extra virgin olive oils of the Italian region which wants to make itself known with its extraordinary food and wine excellences. The book, bound but pocket-sized, of 256 pages hot off the press was presented at stand 12, the Calabrian “citadel” of the 56th Vinitaly, to sommeliers, journalists, producers of wines and extra virgin olive oils, professionals and simple passionate “winelovers”. The Verona event – a preview of the next presentation in Calabria – recorded the presence and intervention of the president of AIS Italia, Sandro Camilli and a greeting “of appreciation and encouragement” from the councilor for agriculture of the Calabria region, Gianluca Gallo who defined the AIS guide as “an important tool that contributes to accompanying and enhancing the growth process of the world of Calabrian wine and the affirmation of the great heritage represented by extra virgin olive oils”.

Together with Antonio Fusco, President of AIS Calabria, Maria Rosaria Romano, coordinator of the Guide, Gianfranco Manfredi, journalist and vice-President of the AIS Calabria sommeliers and curator of the section dedicated to extra virgin olive oils, Sandro Camilli, president of AIS Italia, spoke and underlined ” the value of a guide, agile and complete, published by a local publisher with national prestige such as Rubbettino, which the sommeliers of AIS Calabria have created entirely on their own to provide a ‘working’ tool to the producers of wines and extra virgin olive oils Calabrians who are becoming increasingly known and appreciated for the quality of their products”. “The Wines and Extra Virgin Olive Oils of Calabria” is a unique guide of its kind. Starting with the numbers (which have no equal in the region): 62 wineries and 46 producers of extra virgin olive oil, more than 390 wines tasted (strictly “blind”), of which 180 are those reported and 62 are the wines reviewed.

For each winery there is a story about the company, of the vineyards and wines but also of the men and women who make them, the techniques and grape varieties used, the oenological and agronomic consultancy, the possibility of visits to the company and direct purchase of the products. And that’s not all: the volume offers 108 combinations with dishes and gastronomic preparations, both for wines and extra virgin olive oils and 62 indications of restaurants, trattorias and wine bars located near the wineries. He is a local guide, strongly rooted, but well equipped to speak to the world, thanks to the texts in English of all the descriptions of the wine and olive groves, but also to the maps, QR codes and suggestions of established restaurants and new, sure promises .
