Viterbo – We receive and publish – On the occasion of the National Day of Made in Italy, Noi Moderati Viterbo reiterate their commitment to the valorisation of “made in Italy” in our province, promoting a model of ethical and sustainable development.

The province of Viterbo boasts a long and rich agricultural tradition, which represents a fundamental element for the economy and identity of the territory. Quality and variety products characterize the agriculture of Viterbo, the result of careful work that respects the environment.

Tuscia is a land dedicated to viticulture, with native vines such as Aleatico and Grechetto which produce wines of great value, Tuscia DOP extra virgin olive oil is a product of excellence known and appreciated throughout the world, the province of Viterbo is also an important producer of legumes, such as lentils, chickpeas and beans, which stand out for their flavor and nutritional properties.

Furthermore, Tuscia boasts a rich dairy tradition, with typical cheeses such as sheep’s ricotta, pecorino romano and cacio di fossa. Last but not least, Viterbo pork and beef are appreciated for their quality and genuine flavour.

Agriculture represents a driving sector for the economy of the province of Viterbo, with a significant impact on employment, income and local development. Farms are numerous and widespread throughout the territory and contribute to preserving the rural landscape and enhancing environmental resources.

Agritourism is a rapidly growing activity, which offers visitors the opportunity to live an authentic experience in contact with nature and the flavors of Tuscia. This is why we can say that the Viterbo area is a concrete example of authentic and respectful Made in Italy: the local agricultural products are made in compliance with traditions and the environment, using production methods that guarantee quality and food safety.

For this reason, We Viterbo Moderates firmly condemn gangmastering, a plague that unfortunately also affects our territory, exploiting workers in extremely precarious conditions.

To combat this phenomenon we propose the establishment of the Quality Label for agricultural companies in the province. A stamp that certifies respect for workers’ rights and guarantees dignified and safe working conditions. The Quality Label will be issued following a rigorous control by an independent body, which will verify compliance with the established criteria, including: contractual regularity and adequate remuneration, protection of the health and safety of workers, training and professional development, transport safe and dignified, adequate accommodation that complies with health and hygiene standards. Obtaining the Quality Label will be a source of pride for the farms that obtain it and an added value for their products. Consumers, for their part, will be able to consciously choose products that come from companies that respect workers’ rights and operate legally.

We Viterbo Moderates are convinced that the Quality Label can be an important tool to combat gangmastering and to promote an ethical and responsible work culture in the agricultural sector. We invite all agricultural companies in the province to join this initiative and to commit to a more just and sustainable future for our territory.
