The plot of the prequel
“Mufasa: The Lion King” tells, through Rafiki, an old and wise mandrill, his great friend, the legend of Mufasa to the young lion cub Kiara, daughter of Simba and Nala, with Timon and Pumbaa offering their characteristic show. Told as in a Bildungsroman, the story of Simba’s father is presented through flashbacks, in which we see Mufasa, an orphaned cub, lost and alone until he meets a sympathetic lion named Taka, heir to a royal lineage. The chance meeting begins the journey of an extraordinary group of unfortunates in search of their destiny: their bonds will be tested as they work together to escape a menacing and deadly enemy.
The soundtrack
The film’s songs, produced by Mark Mancina and Miranda, are scored by award-winning composer Lin-Manuel Miranda with additional music and performances by Lebo M.
Miranda said: “Elton John, Tim Rice, Hans Zimmer, Lebo M. Mark Mancina, Beyoncé, Labrinth, Ilya Salmanzadeh, Beau Black, Ford Riley, the incredible musical team of ‘The Lion Guard’ and so many other musical collaborators over the years… The Lion King has an incredible musical legacy, with songs by some of the greatest composers around, and I’m honored and proud to be a part of it. It was a joy to work alongside Barry Jenkins to bring it to life to the story of Mufasa and we can’t wait for audiences to see this film in theaters.”
Beyoncé, who produced the second official soundtrack album “The Lion King: The Gift” and sang the original song “Spirit” for the 2019 live-action, was also involved in the new musical project and will return to voice Nala .
Live Action voice actors
the film, whose screenplay is still entrusted to Jeff Nathanson and which combines live-action cinematographic techniques with photorealistic computer-generated images, boasts a stellar cast of voice actors in the original version. Beyoncé and Donald Glover have been confirmed to reprise their roles as Nala and Simba. With them will be Beyoncé’s daughter, Blue Ivy in the role of Kiara, daughter of King Simba and Queen Nala

The great success of the 1994 classic and the 2019 film
Just one month after its debut, in August 2019, the new version of “The Lion King” surpassed the record of “Frozen”, becoming the highest-grossing animated film in history. Jon Favreau’s film, despite ending up in the Disney list as a live-action remake, is to be considered as a computer graphics animated remake, made with a traditional animation style (and will be able to compete for the next Oscars in the Best Animated Film category ).
The 1994 Disney classic is still one of the biggest hits in the history of animated cinema, with a total global gross of $968.8 million. When released in theaters, “The Lion King” won an Oscar for Best Original Song thanks to the song “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” (composed by Elton John and Tim Rice) and one for Best Original Score (composed by Hans Zimmer ), as well as two Grammy Awards.
