Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 will take up the theme of mental health that Ninja Theory had already addressed in the first chapter of the series, and so the studio organized together with Cambridge Neuroscience a special event which will be streamed on April 9th at 3pm.
Titled Hellblade: A Journey of the Mindthe meeting will try to explore the perspectives of people who have experienced psychosis and those who work to study and treat it, as well as how the development team has introduced these aspects into its games.
“In Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice we wanted to tell the story of a Celtic warrior and her quest to save the soul of her lover: a quest that is both physical and mental, as an exploration of Senua’s experiences of psychosis“, wrote Dom Matthews, head of Ninja Theory.
“When we embarked on the development of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, we knew it would be critical to fully understand the subject matter before attempting to portray it. understand psychosis and what it can mean to experience itwe began what has become a close collaboration with experts through research and first-hand experience.”
“In the field of neuroscience, Professor Paul Fletcher from the University of Cambridge has now been a close collaborator of the team for over ten years. In terms of lived experience, we instead collaborated with the RCE Wellbeing Hub (formerly Recovery College East) to learn directly from people the impact that psychosis and the stigma associated with it can have on daily life.”
A new chapter
“In Senua’s Saga: Hellblade 2 we will explore a new chapter in Senua’s lifethe next step in his mental health journey” Matthews continued. “Although she has come to terms with the voices she hears and the way she perceives the world, she is no longer alone in her search. In Iceland she will meet people with their own belief system, who may see her unique perspective as a beacon of hope, while others reject her.”
