The start of the cycle of free cancer prevention visits organized for the year 2024 in Pisa by the ANT Foundation was presented on Thursday 4 April at Palazzo Gambacorti. Thanks to the commitment of the group of volunteers who created the new ANT Delegation of Pisa and the synergy with various entities in the Pisa area, 2024 will see a notable increase in the number of visits made available by ANT for citizens living in the area Pisan.

In particular, in the first half of the year the dates of the first three days ofMelanoma project‘ aimed at the citizens of Pisa and the province, which will be hosted free of charge by the Medici della Misericordia studios in Pisa, in via Gentile da Fabriano 1.

Specifically, thanks to the ANT ‘Melanoma Project’, it will be possible to access free dermatological visits with the aid of dermatoscopy, an investigation that allows for the timely diagnosis of suspicious and/or neoplastic lesions. The first two dates, open to all citizens, will be April 12th and May 24th, while the third date, June 14th, will be reserved for citizens in conditions of economic and social fragility.

To access the visits in April and May you will need to register and book your appointment at the link https://ant.it/cosa-facciamo/prevenzione/registrazione-visite, starting from 10am on 5 April, until places last. For the June visits, patients will be identified through the Health Society through the Department of Social Policies of the Municipality of Pisa.

The initiative was organized with the patronage of the Municipality of Pisa, with the precious collaboration of the Misericordia di Pisa and with the support, which is repeated again this year, of the Pisa Foundation. The project will also see the important collaboration of the Association against Melanoma of Pisa, which has been working for twenty years in the prevention of melanoma in the Pisa area.

“It is a great satisfaction to be able to be here today to announce the free ANT cancer prevention program for the citizens of Pisa for this year – declared Pietro Augello, ANT Pisa delegate – For a few months myself and a group of volunteers , special women and men, sensitive in intercepting a need and capable of putting themselves at the service of the community, we have taken steps to create a new ANT Delegation in Pisa, which can expand ANT’s free cancer prevention activities in our territory” .

“I am honored to hold the role of Pisa Delegate of ANT. I had the privilege of meeting the national president Raffaella Pannuti and of visiting the ANT national headquarters, entering into relationships with many people, all animated by the desire to satisfy needs and ensure closeness Also in Pisa we can satisfy the needs of closeness to people, organizing oncological prevention initiatives, thanks to the contribution of each of us. We would not be here today without the generosity of the citizens who donated to the ANT stands organized by us before and after the period Christmas and near the Easter period in Pisa, thanks to entities such as the Esperia Association which chose to dedicate an evening to us last February and naturally thanks to the Pisa Foundation which has already supported us for several years”.

Augello concludes: “I would also like to thank the Misericordia of Pisa which immediately welcomed our free prevention initiative in its clinics, an initiative which has a profound social value because one of the days of free dermatological visits will be dedicated to economically and socially fragile subjects identified through the Casa della Salute, through the Department of Social Policies of the Municipality of Pisa which hosts us today and has given us its patronage. Of course we don’t stop here: in the second semester we will make other days of free visits available, with the Mobile Clinic ANT- Prevention Bus which will stop in Pisa in October”.

“Early diagnosis and prevention are fundamental factors in the treatment of the disease and in saving human lives – declares the councilor for socio-health policies of the Municipality of Pisa, Giovanna Bonanno – and I must say that as an administration we maintain a high level of attention and commitment in safeguard, in prevention, awareness and information activities to protect the health of our citizens. And this is why when it was proposed to me by the president of the Ant Association, I welcomed this initiative with great interest not only because it looks to the good most precious, which is our health, with a free prevention and awareness campaign but also for the attention paid to more economically and socially fragile people who often, for these reasons, find themselves having to give up carrying out checks which are instead important for preventing and treating any diseases”.

“One of these three days of prevention, i.e. 14 June, will be reserved for the most vulnerable subjects who find themselves experiencing moments of difficulty and economic uncertainty and I believe that this represents a great gesture of solidarity and closeness for which I want to sincerely thank the Ant Association, all the volunteers and professionals for the precious work they have been carrying out for years with great commitment, dedication and passion. And this initiative is also important because it sees the implementation of that network of collaboration and synergy between our administration, the associations and the Health Society, which sees us united together for a common good which is that of the health of our citizens”.

“We were very happy to have been involved in this prevention project and to have been able to make the spaces and the structure available – declared Sandra Capuzzi, Extraordinary Commissioner Misericordia Pisa – Initiatives like these allow us to put the relationship back at the center of our activity with the territory and with the companies that operate in a sector similar to ours. This is the beginning of a collaboration that we hope to consolidate”.

“The Pisa Foundation has long supported ANT’s initiatives dedicated to free cancer prevention, which are organized every year to offer the possibility of undergoing a specialist visit – says Maurizio Sbrana, speaking at the press conference for the Pisa Foundation, bringing the greetings of president Stefano Del Corso – In particular, since 2010 the Pisa Foundation has recognized institutional support for the ANT Foundation, which today presents a first calendar of dates for accessing dermatological visits, and which increasingly over the years, in addition to home medical assistance for sick, carries out the activity to raise awareness of prevention and checks. ANT’s activities are extremely valuable, and as we know they support and complete the tasks of the National Health System”.

Since 2004, the ANT Foundation has chosen to combine its precious free home medical care service for cancer patients with free oncology prevention activities aimed at local citizens. Since 2007 these projects have also arrived in Tuscany with an ever-growing number of visits. In our region, in the year 2023 alone, 3031 patients were examined through the various ANT prevention projects. Starting from the year 2007. This activity is even more necessary in a moment like the one we live in today, in which economic and social difficulties push many to give up prevention. To find out about all the free oncology prevention dates that ANT organizes in Tuscany every month and how to book, you can visit the ‘oncology prevention visits’ section of the ant.it/toscana web page.
