Covid donations scandal. Fabbri does not apologize: “I didn’t know”

“I didn’t know it either to tell the truth that they had remained there.” After days of silence iMayor Alan Fabbri intervenes on its public page on the topic of pro Covid donations requested from the people of Ferrara but never donated to the hospital.

“It’s very simple – explains the mayor, repeating what has already been written in an official note from the general director Sandro Mazzatorta -. The Municipality of Ferrara has started a fundraiser for the hospital during the pandemic: approximately 48 thousand EUR. Of these, we have decided to donate 35 thousand euros from the Holding company of the Municipality of Ferrara (payment of 30 thousand euros) and from the AFM Municipal Pharmacies of Ferrara (payment of 5 thousand euros). The remaining sum, of around 13 thousand euros, was donated by 108 citizens, including me and the entire council.”

As already written by Estense.com lthe sum spent to date was 18,775 euros,”used for the purchase of health products such as swabs and masks. The rest are still thereaccounting bound to the health company”.

But the mayor doesn’t seem to understand That the problem is precisely this: using money donated by citizens for other destinations compared to those desired. And especially, for expenses that the Municipality would have had to support with money taken from its own coffers.

“To tell the truth, I didn’t even know – confesses Fabbri – that they had remained there and in fact I immediately proceeded to inquire with the accounting office”.

To try to justify the stumble, the mayor claims to remember “that in that period I was practically alone in the Municipality with some of my staff, and there were so many issues to deal with. But certainly that money didn’t come into my pocket or into anyone else’s.”

And even here Fabbri doesn’t understand the problem: no one has ever said or written that anyone pocketed the money.

As for the donation done at the request of the unionsthe mayor admits that it was indeed “a decision by me and by the council”, but “on the proposal of the unions, but not a necessary act”.
