The Rt index is 0.96 while the incidence is 0.82 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, essentially stable compared to the previous week. Hospitalization and mortality rates are higher in older age groups. The percentage of reinfections is approximately 39%, a slight decrease compared to the previous week. THE REPORT
19 APR –
A very limited impact of Covid has also been confirmed in the last week. The data from the ISS’s Integrated COVID-19 Surveillance, in the period 04/08/2024 – 04/14/2024, show an incidence of diagnosed and reported cases equal to 0.82 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, substantially stable compared to the week previous (04/01/2024 – 04/07/2024, 0.9 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).
The weekly incidence (04/08/2024 – 04/14/2024) of diagnosed and reported cases has a heterogeneous trend in the different Regions/PPAA compared to the previous week. The highest incidence was reported in Lombardy (1.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants), no cases were reported from the Regions/PPAA Basilicata, Calabria and PA Bolzano. The data for the last two weeks may vary as they are subject to consolidation.
The age groups that record the highest weekly incidence rate are 70-79, 80-89 and >90 years. The weekly incidence is stable in most age groups. The median age at diagnosis is 62 years, stable compared to the previous week.
The transmissibility index (Rt) calculated with data updated to 17 April 2024 and based on cases with hospitalization, as of 04/09/2024 is below the epidemic threshold, equal to 0.96 (0.79–1.15) , slightly decreasing compared to the previous week (Rt=1.01 (0.83–1.21) as of 04/02/2024).
Hospitalization and mortality rates are higher in the older age groups (hospitalization rate in the >90 years group equal to 8 per 1,000,000 inhabitants and mortality rate in the >90 years group equal to 2 per 1,000,000 ab; no new admissions to intensive care were recorded in the week of observation. The percentage of reinfections is approximately 39%, a slight decrease compared to the previous week.
At the date of the most recent rapid survey to estimate the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 variants (conducted from 25 to 31 March 2024, number of sequences equal to 44), JN.1 (descendant of BA.2.86), represents the prevalent variant (78.4% vs. 71.7% in the previous survey).
