Martina Colombari has transformed completely for the new film by Checco Zalone. The former Miss Italy has put aside her iconic beauty, accepting a radical metamorphosis without hesitation: gray hair, aging makeup, zero glamour. And the result? Even the most loyal fans struggle to recognize her on the screen of “Buen Camino”the Christmas success that is hitting the box office with over 27 million euros.
Checco’s “uncomfortable” request
At the audition Checco Zalone and the director Nunziante they were almost afraid to ask her to “make herself ugly”, she says with a laugh. But Martina didn’t bat an eyelid. “I had a lot of fun, I liked transforming myself“, he confesses to Il Messaggero. The proposal was clear: forget the glossy Martina, the one from the cover, to take on the role of Linda, the protagonist’s ex-wife, a former model who then begins to dedicate herself to theater engaged. Hours and hours of makeup to age her, messy gray wig, statement glasses. A leap into the void for an actress who has always made beauty her calling card, but who now wants to demonstrate that she knows how to do much more.
“Happy to give up my beauty”: the message behind the choice
For the former Miss Italy this transformation is not just a question of makeup and wig. “I’m happy to give up my beauty or put it in the background. It prevented me from opportunities: a director told me that I wouldn’t be credible in the role of a blind woman”, she reveals with sincerity. The impeccable image, the one that has made her famous since 1991 when at just 16 years old she won the crown of the most beautiful in Italy he often caged her in superficial roles. With “Buen Camino” if you catch the scene, showing a new and vulnerable side. A character who, like herself in life, is looking for a new identity beyond appearance.
From box office triumph to the theatre: Martina never stops
Zalone’s film is a phenomenon: 20 million in three days, sending presale sites into a tailspin. And Martina enjoys this moment of relaunch, after the intense experience “Dancing with the Stars” (which she even got tattooed on her skin with the words “insemprarsi”). Now she is ready to tour two theater comedies, “Friday the 13th” and “Truer Than True”. To those who ask her if she is satisfied with her career, she replies without hesitation: “Of course. Since 1991 I have never stopped. I continued to roll up my sleeves and in the end I was rewarded”. And looking at the photos of Linda with that gray hair and that lined face, you start to believe her. Because at 49 years old, Martina Colombari has understood that true beauty lies in the courage to shed her skin.
