There Queen Mary of Denmark and her husband, King Frederick, appeared together again on the occasion of the traditional summer tour on board the royal yacht. This is the first since they were crowned after the abdication of Queen Margherita and, according to experts, it was also an opportunity to rebalance a couple’s image that has already suffered several shocks. Just think of the King’s alleged betrayal, as well as their first official portrait which sparked criticism because it was accused of being too retouched. The couple looked happy and even gave an interview to the media for the first time.

Queen Margaret’s surprise abdication profoundly changed the fortunes of the Danish Royal Family. The choice of the Sovereign was certainly not random, given the turbulent implications of the gossip that overwhelmed his son Federico, the new King: the increasingly insistent rumors of the alleged betrayal of his wife Mary went around the world, affecting for the first time the image of a couple that at least apparently seemed unassailable.
Probably also to restore the balance of this image, as far as possible, the King and Queen of Denmark undertook the first royal voyage on board the Royal Yacht Dannebrog which, by tradition, has taken place close to summer every year since 1932. Like the Princess of Wales, also the Danish Queen she loves wearing polka dots and on the occasion of the trip aboard the royal yacht he decided to dust off one of the most popular items in his wardrobe.
It is a navy blue dress by Iris & Ink which she had already worn in 2021 for her son Cristiano’s confirmation, a delightful model with an A-line skirt and long sleeves studded with tiny white polka dots. He paired the dress with a white hat with net and feathers and a small strap of the same color, perfect for marking the waistline (which never hurts). The first tour aboard the royal yacht coincided with another important event: Mary and Frederick of Denmark gave their first interview as a couple since they ascended the throne. Speaking to the Danish broadcaster TV2the King told of his enormous emotion during the coronation: “It was really overwhelming and moving. I felt extremely welcome. The highlight was when Mary and the kids came out and stopped right behind me and I had the Danes standing in front of me and waving. Was one of the most incredible things I have experienced in my life“.
(Unexpectedly) conciliatory words also from Mary: “I was with the children and when you went out onto the balcony towards your destiny, it was a moment that moved me incredibly – she said, addressing her husband directly -. (…) It was a beautiful moment. I was happy and very proud“.
