MAGRÉ. Among Magré’s characters who left us just before the Christmas holidayswhose long series ended with the unforgettable group leader of the country’s Alpine troops Gino Degasperi, there is also Edith Morat, who turned 88 on November 10th.
From the bar to the wine shop
There is not a single person in the small town under the Favogna mountainbut also in the neighboring centers of Bassa Atesina, cthat he did not know and appreciate Mrs. Edith. Because she, we could say from a very young age, dedicated herself to being behind the counter of the village bar which she managed from 1962 until 1986. Here she mainly served wine, the main product of the village, the result of the great work of the Magré cooperative winery which transformed the grapes from the nearby hills.
Then Edith Morat closed the bar and after the merger with Nalles, the Nalles-Magré winery opened the “Enoteca Gertraudi” in Piazza Santa Gertrude. Mrs Morat did not miss the opportunity and after a brief period as a cook at the German language nursery school in Magré, she returned behind the counter of the new wine shop to pour the wine from the new cooperative winery. Here he worked for 30 years, until 2017, making himself known and appreciated by wine enthusiasts throughout Bassa Atesina but also abroad.
In fact, there were many customers, especially from beyond Brenner, who came to Magré to stock up on the nectar that matures in the vineyards surrounding the small town of the “Bassa” developed by the “Nalles-Magré” winery on the advice and indications of Mrs. Edith.
Star for merit for work
And precisely for this work commitment, after reaching retirement age, Edith Morat was awarded the Federation of Italian Labor Masters for the 2017 Star of Merit for Work. A very precious honor of which Edith was proud, also because it rewarded a lady who dedicated practically her entire life to work.
After a few years of retirement, Edith Morat, after a brief illness, passed away from this world on December 12th.
