A spectacular Italian supercar, which has become famous over time, features a prodigious Mercedes engine, already used on two cars from the Stuttgart company. Engine is dreamlike.

The Mercedes has often supplied high-power engines to supercars of other brands, and today we will talk to you about a high-power propulsion unit that went to equip a jewel of Italian craftsmanship. The engine in question is the M120 V12 which also powered the Mercedes S600 and the SL73 AMGthat is to say a luxury sedan and a spectacular spider that has remained in the hearts of enthusiasts.

Since the 1960s, Mercedes had intended to produce a V12 engine, but high costs and other operational problems extended the timeframe until the early 1990s. Then came the time for the 6.0-litre M120a V12 with aluminum, silicon and copper block, and aluminum heads, with distribution with four overhead camshafts and four valves for each cylinder, with variable timing on the intake side. The maximum power of this engine could reach 400 horsepower, a significant figure for a luxury sedan from over thirty years ago like the S600. As anticipated, the same engine was later used on an Italian supercar.

Mercedes, here is the Pagani Zonda C12 with M120 engine

The M120 engine was increased to 7.3 liters of displacement for the Mercedes SL73 AMGone of the most powerful roadsters ever produced by the house of the three-pointed star. In 1999, this engine was also chosen by Pagani for the Zonda C12, but with 394 horsepower of maximum power. Pagani’s was a precise choice, inserting a less powerful engine into a highly refined car from a mechanical and aerodynamic point of view, so as to provide exceptional performance.

A few years later, in 2002, Pagani decided to fit a 7.3 V12 with 760 horsepowersignificantly increasing its performance, and demonstrating the great potential of this exceptional engine. Therefore, the same engine, with different power ratings and displacements, was used on three different cars, but all with amazing performances.
