Leonardo confirms the sale to Fincantieri

Less than a month ago the garrison in front of the gates Leonardo in via di Levante, when the workers’ concerns regarding a possible sale of the activities once again emerged ex Wass to Fincantieri, including the factories of Livorno and Pozzuoli. An operation which, although not yet concluded, was in fact confirmed yesterday, Wednesday 8 May, by Leonardo’s CEO, Roberto Cingolani, to the Fiom Cgil, Fim Cisl and Uilm unions in the group’s strategic observatory. A transition that directly affects 500 workers and for which, from the unions to the municipal administration, clarity is requested regarding the transfer methods, the maintenance guarantees at the Livorno site and the increase in employment envisaged by the Leonardo hiring plan.

“We have been informed of the sale to Fincantieri of the former Wass plants, competent in under-water technologies – explain Fiom, Fim and Uilm -, a sale on which we have clearly expressed that we will monitor punctually, in order to guarantee not only the salary and employment levels, but also the industrial perimeter including the current related industries”. “This operation – they continue -, which keeps activities and workers within the scope of public control, must guarantee both production sites and growth prospects, as well as a renewed collaboration between the two groups”.

These guarantees have not yet been clarified by the group, which is why after last week’s meeting between the unions and the municipal administration, Mayor Salvetti informed the Region to act as spokesperson for a meeting in Rome with the ministry. Indeed, Cingolani’s words on the sidelines of a Uilm conference on the Ligurian defense industry on 15 April are not exactly reassuring. “Leonardo has to do fewer things, but very well – said Cingolani -. Wass it would be better if he were at Fincantieri’s house”.

“The discussion on the evolution of the industrial plan and the repercussions on the individual divisions – Fiom, Fim and Uilm finally inform – will continue in the meetings scheduled for the next months of June and July and with a subsequent convocation of the observatory at the end of the divisional comparisons”. “For our part – adds the Councilor for Development of the Municipality of Livorno, Gianfranco Simoncini – we will monitor that employment continuity, the centrality of the Livorno plant, which has also been growing in recent years, and the maintenance of the market spaces that , in addition to armaments, provides for development in the civilian sector, which is not in itself a bad thing, as long as all these aspects are ensured.”
