Mazda is present at Beijing Motor Show where he removed the veils on the EZ-6 sedan and the Arata concept car (an SUV). The sedan is close to launch on the Chinese market. In fact, the Japanese car manufacturer has made it known that it will debut by the end of 2024. The concept, however, anticipates the contents of a model that will arrive by the end of next year. Both models adopt a design language evolution of the Kodo that we know and have been developed through the joint venture with Changan.
THE NEW MODELS
Let’s start with the Mazda EZ-6 sedan which will be the first of a series of new electrified vehicles that will debut in China. Measure 4,921 mm long x 1,890 mm wide x 1,485 mm high and will have the rear-wheel Drive. As mentioned at the beginning, it will be launched on this market by the end of the year. The front is characterized by elongated headlights with thin shapes and the large grille with the Mazda logo in the centre. The automaker has paid close attention to aerodynamics to optimize efficiency as much as possible.
In fact, this model in addition to being proposed with a Plug-in motorization will be also offered in one 100% electric version. Nothing precise has been said about the mechanics except that the electric model will be able to count on 600 km of autonomy, while the PHEV one will have 1,000 km (charged battery + full tank of petrol). The Mazda EZ-6 features 50:50 weight distribution, multi-link rear suspension and an electric rear spoiler that improves high-speed stability. More details on the car will be communicated later.
The passenger compartment is very different from that of the Mazdas we know well. The style is minimalist and the dashboard is dominated by a 14.6-inch central display of the infotainment system. Behind the steering wheel we find the digital instrumentation (10.2-inch screen). According to the Chinese press, it is possible that the sedan could be based on the Changan Depal SL03.
Let’s move on to the concept car. For this model, the Japanese car manufacturer did not want to provide particular details. So, for the moment we can only look at her look. A lot of attention was also paid to this model development of aerodynamics. We can see, for example, that the classic side mirrors have been replaced by cameras. Mazda talks about an electrified model. Given the closed grille, the concept is certainly electric. We don’t know, however, if there will also be a Plug-in version.
