The Island of the Trasimeno book is back: «More events and in more territories»

More events scheduled, more territories involved and a quality audience, including internationally renowned figures such as the Egyptian archaeologist Zahi Hawass, now a historic friend of the event. This is how the 12th edition of the Trasimeno Book Island presents itself, the literary review conceived and organized by its president Italo Marri scheduled from 4 May to 3 October, between Passignano sul Trasimeno, Castel Rigone, Castiglione del Lago, Panicale, Orvieto and Perugia . A programme, characterized by almost thirty literary cafés and meetings with authors, but also by art exhibitions and concerts, which was announced on Thursday in Perugia, in the Hall of Honor of Palazzo Donini. Present, together with Marri, were the president of the Umbria Region Donatella Tesei, the regional councilor Eugenio Rondini and the director of the Trasimeno-Orvietano Gal Francesca Caproni. The latter all underlined the great cultural relevance of the event, defined as «among the main in this area of ​​Trasimeno» and the implications for the territory, not only on a cultural level, but also economically, as a tourist attractor. «First of all – underlined Marri – we have expanded the number of municipalities in which we will host our literary cafés, this year also reaching Orvieto and Panicale. But we have also increased the number of appointments, with many authors, including some welcome returns such as Hawass, general Mori, the physicist Ereditato and the journalist Fasanella, and new guests such as the historian Oliva, the creator of the cycling tourism L’Eroica, Giancarlo Brocci, or minister Musumeci. Together with many other authors, each of whom has the same relevance and dignity for us.”

Scheduled appointments

The first two events scheduled, at the medieval fortress of Passignano, will be the meetings with the writers Guido Barlozzetti (Saturday 4 May at 4.30 pm) who will present his book ‘La meteora. Mario Draghi. The anomaly of an image’, and Roberto Pecchioli, (Sunday 5 May at 4.30 pm) with the book ‘The war of words. Political correctness, Newspeak, cancel culture.’ Here’s who will be taking part in the various locations. Passignano will host Alessandro Monti, Giancarlo Brocci, Romano Benini and Vincenzo Scotti in the square or at the fortress. The fortress of the lakeside village will also host three personal exhibitions: by Marco Pierini from 1st to 9th August; by Luigi Stefano Cannelli from 10 to 31 August; by Giulio Brandelli, from 1 to 22 September. Each of them will be inaugurated with a concert. At Palazzo della Corgna in Castiglione del Lago there will be, however, Alvaro Fiorucci, Luigi Bisignani and Paolo Madron, the journalist Mino Lorusso, the Carabinieri general Mario Mori and Colonel Giuseppe De Donno, the physicist Antonio Ereditato and Luca Beretta. The writer Riccardo Lestini, the historian Gianni Oliva, Michele Chierico, Gaetano Mollo, the magistrate Edmondo Bruti Liberati, the journalist Giovanni Fasanella and Ben Pastor waited on the terrace of the Castel Rigone theater. In Panicale Giacomo Marinelli Andreoli and Luciano Taborchi. In Orvieto, on 20 July, the internationally renowned archaeologist and Egyptologist Zahi Hawass will present his latest discoveries. The Umbria Ensemble concert is also scheduled for September in Orvieto. In Perugia, meetings with President Tesei, the regional councilor for tourism and culture Paola Agabiti, the minister for civil protection and sea policies Nello Musumeci and Sara Rattaro. Given the coincidence with the European elections and his candidacy for the European Parliament, the scheduled meeting with Army General Roberto Vannacci and the presentation of his autobiography ‘Courage wins’ was postponed to a later date and place. The pages of a book contain the ideas of an author and when he comes to present them, these ideas can be discussed and debated. We are in favor of comparing ideas, even if we don’t fully share them. The discussion is enriching and continuous learning. It’s culture. And this is what we want to do, culture. This is the purpose of Book Island.”
