the challenges of Prezzolini and Montanelli

Two voices against the current to tell as many glimpses of the century, with their dreams, the hardships and the complicated turning points of history. Weaving together the threads are the brothers Alberto and Giancarlo Mazzuca, both already authors of this newspaper, which the latter then directed. The two protagonists are instead Giuseppe Prezzolini and Indro Montanelli, masters of journalism linked by a very evident common thread in Le due voci, which has just arrived in bookshops for Baldini+Castoldi: obstinate research, independent thought, sought throughout a career even at the cost of making mistakes. Prezzolini and Montanelli, master and pupil, share the baton in that newspaper name, La Voce, which they will both share almost eighty years apart. Hence a book conceived in two stages, in which however the references to before and after are continuous, as are the points in common. Like the challenge of outlining a conservative thought that rose above the political events of the time, the advent of Fascism in one case, the birth of the Second Republic in the other. Or the difficulty of a solitary and almost quixotic entrepreneurial adventure, the awareness of somehow affecting the living flesh of the country, with two critical thoughts whose sign is still clearly visible in society, in controversies and in the history of Italian information .

The rest is anecdotal, useful for once not only to reconstruct glimpses of curious everyday life, but rather to outline two enormous figures who have remained, by choice and coherence, in the shadow of a Voice to whom the entire proscenium can be delegated.
