CATANIA – The first is being distributed novel by photojournalist Donatella Turillo. It is titled “Mamita Sta Bene” (Algra Editore) and contains the afterword by the jazz conductor Roberta Giuffrida. It is an autobiographical work, which tells the story of an experience lived at the age of twenty-seven, which has remained preserved in a manuscript since 1997.

A story that in the Covid period turns into a real one book, to be read in one sitting. A story full of suspended emotions, which envelop and involve the reader who is inevitably affected by the succession of events told.

History

An accident deep in Mexico, on the streets of Yucatan, an off-road vehicle that overturns and ends its journey at the bottom of a precipice. The night, the darkness, the loss of consciousness, the memory void upon awakening and then the mystery of the life force that emerges when everything seems lost and finished. A surreal setting, in a place where the fate of the world seems to have been predicted and explained millennia ago.

The symbiosis between mother and daughter which becomes salvation for both in a unique relationship, built between the fragility of two hearts. She barefoot on the path of desperation, overcoming fear thanks to animal intuition, with the strength of her own being and that inner guiding voice, whispered by silence. The spirit of survival accompanies every line of the story transforming it into a hymn to life, to smiles, to joy.

The author

Donatella Turillo was born in Catania on 15 December 1970, journalist not by chance and photographer by passion he is a happy, curious, restless soul. A free spirit, which she flows in the bourgeois paths of the you don’t do it, of the social conventions, from which she has tried to free herself since she was a child. She studies literature and languages, the world has always been her secret refuge.

Active on social issues as well as careful observer of human knowledge, he transforms his profound reading of human emotions into shots. Among his exhibitions: “Woman in Progress”, “Selfie, Virtual Desert” ,“Without Hesitation” ,“Lost Dreams” Emilio Greco Catania Museum, sponsored by the Municipality of Catania, “Rosso La Sera No to Femicide” and “Wonder Time” , “CoviDays places, people and Lockdown”.

Between one shot and another his need to write doesn’t stop, he collaborates like this journalist for various newspapers, dealing with news and entertainment. “Mamita Sta Bene” is not just a book but an event that a true reader cannot miss.

The presentation

The book will be presented in Catania on Saturday 11 May, in the “Theatre” room of the Palazzo della Cultura at 4.30 pm. To moderate the journalist Lorena Dolci, readings by actress Carmela Sanfilippo. The event is included in the national May of Books 2024 campaign and sponsored by the Municipality of Catania.
