In his new novel, “The feast of the beast” (“The banquet of the beast”), the Swiss writer Emmanuelle Robert Drag the reader on a winter night in the heart of Les Diablerets (Canton Vaud) who has little fairytale and very disturbing. These are events that intertwine eroticism with the fantastic, gastronomic satire with alpine terror, a reading that stands out in the panorama consistently designed by our “Nos Alpes, Nos Livres” section.
“The feast of the beast”
The plot of “Le Festin de la Bête” has a rather simple debut: in a chalet transformed into a gourmet restaurant, some guests are summoned by an enigmatic amphitrion. But what promised to be a high cuisine meal soon turns into a monstrous Sarabanda: between Mannari wolves, vampires and dark desires, the real horror is not hidden behind sharp teeth but behind blessed smiles.
Conceived as a fake fairy talethe novel targets theelite gastronomic and its luxury cultrevealing how thin the border between sublime and grotesque can be. Emmanuelle Robert plays with i cliché Alpini and overturns them, bringing the reader far from the usual mountain narratives made of paths, memories and contemplative silences.
The Gore des Alpes collection
“Le Festin de la Bête” is part of the largest collection called Gore des Alpesborn in 2019 to give space to a genre, pulp, ironic and ruthless literature, where the mountain becomes the scene of primordial instincts and destruction rituals. It proposes about thirty titles that does not fear blood or sarcasmeach inspired by the covers and codes of the horror fictional fictional fiction between revived corpses, corrupt religions and cannibal banquets.
It is an interesting reading, deliberately in contrast with the stereotype of the pristine beautiful Alpsauthentic traditions and representation for trivialized tourism. Gore Des Alpes was in fact born at the time of the 2018 Valais referendum for the Olympic games, and in reaction to the portrait that was proposed to you, as a postcard, a goodist and enchant landscapes. He has a good success, particularly in the Romanian Switzerland, where he was born in 2019. He has since produced 30 titles and sold more than 20 thousand copies.

Emmanuelle Robert
As already the classic editorial line of “Nos Alpes, Nos Livres”, Emmanuelle Robert is an author who breaks the conventions and the creepy monotony of a single and single literary genre. Former journalist originally from La Chaux-de-Fonds (Canton Neuchâtel), she is in fact purely known for his detective novels “Malatraix” (Slatkine editions, 2021) e “Dormez en peilz” (Slatkine editions, 2023).
Today devoted entirely to narrative as a privileged lens to tell the reality, in this novel she abandons every brake, letting be fantasy and a pinch of madness to guide her pen. With a Sensual, sharp and cinematographic writingshe gives us a supernatural and irreverent work that reads one breath … provided that all the guests arrive at the end of the meal.
